5mm spacers not hubcentric?

Somehow all the 5mm spacers I see online, don't have the hubcentric lip…

Do 5mm spacers (and thinner) not need to have a hub centric lip?

Otherwise, does anyone know a brand of spacers that does?

such a thin spacer doesnt need a lip as there isnt enough material to justify it. The hub of the wheel bearing is still there to center the rim

That makes sense. Even the description on some of them state that they are flat hub-centric design.

Interestingly enough, apparently ECS/Turner does make a front hub extender to be used with spacers which are 10mm or less, although haven't found any with the 72.6mm center bore used in the E9X.

And even spacers with built-in hub extenders:

Maybe necessary only on certain models?

I can confirm that the Turner hub extenders didn't fit my e92 M3. I have 5mm spacers on the front hubs on my 2010 M3 and about 8mm of the hub is still exposed with the spacers on which is enough to support the wheels. I was looking for added support and tried the Turner extenders even though their website says they don't fit. I could actually push the extenders onto the hubs but the wheels wouldn't fit back onto the hub since the extender diameter was too large for the bore of the wheels. Probably could have figured out a solution by machining the extenders but it seemed like a lot of work for something that wasn't designed to fit an M3.

I use 5mm spacers on the rear of my '08 E93 M3.
No hub extenders, no issues.

You might get a vibration in front due to wheels not being centered with 5 mm

I use a 5mm set from Apex up front to stay in street specs for autocross. No vibration or issues. And great fitment bro to go with it.

Depending on the wheel's center bore bevel, they may still sit on the hub with a 5mm spacer.

But yes, the hubcentric rim sticks out about 10mm from the hub. You can not make a spacer less than that that is hubcentric. 10mm spacers kind of cheat this by using the wheel bevel, but it's important to note that these aren't compatible with all wheels.

12mm is the smallest 100% fitment reliable spacer.

3mm & 5mm spacers are fine, as they leave you with at least 5-6mm of hub lip for wheel to sit on. Hub lips protrude 10-11mm which is why 10mm can *just* work if they're engineered right.

Being hubcentric is not the same thing as having an extended hub lip. A 3 or 5mm spacer won't have a lip, but their inner bore is still 72.56mm (hubcentric) to match our hubs.

I wouldn't use a non hub-centric spacer no matter what length, and there's no need to as all the decent options are 72.56mm.
