Rear Subframe Bushings
On the verge of trying to sell my car but it sounds like my subframe bushings are starting to go out. Want to replace them before any buyers take interest. Any recommendations on which ones i should go with? Mainly street driven running supercharger

Consensus is solid. That's what I'm getting ready to do. As for what brand id just do whatever the shop prefers to install.

If you’re selling your car and dont want to spend too much do the akg poly bushings. You can swap them without removing subframe which is how i did it.

How many miles on your car and what makes you think they're going out?

Also curious what makes you suspect your subframe bushings are failing?
My car is also supercharged and mainly street driven with a handful of track days sprinkled in. I also thought my OEM bushings were toast, but they weren't. Turned out that my OEM subframe bushings were in very good condition, I changed them out to solid one piece aluminum, to make the track experience less stressful. The rear of the car twitched in certain track scenarios with the rubber bushings and just felt super creepy. However, the back of the car also did a lateral twitch at each gear change even when just doing a straight line pull. The solids did cure the lateral twitch feeling.

the exhaust hangers are fine, originially when i started to look for the problem i thought it was the shock absorber but it wasnt it. then i swapped my entire suspension out eventually and it never went away. changed some bushings on the swaybar never fixed either.

I have a clunk as well, in both front and rear, and only over bumps (when going very slow, no clunk).
I'm leaning towards the shocks as well since car has been previously lowered w/ springs. Anyone able to chime in about anything similar? |

My BMW tech friends both told me to start with the sway bar endlinks as those can make all sorts of noise if loose or the joints have too much play.

Curious why AKG states that "Remember: the material used for the diff mount bushing location(s) must match the material used for the subframe bushings."
Is it really a must?

I would look at the diff bushings/bolts. I had a bushing rip on my car and then subsequently a bolt break, and it wreaked havoc on my subframe even after only about 5 miles of driving it home after I heard some nasty noises.
Currently in the process of swapping in an entire new subframe after one of the diff mounting points got oval-ed out. If you're noticing that clunking noise is happening when you get on and off the throttle, this could well be a culprit, so it's worth checking out. Also, if it is indeed your subframe bushings, why not just replace with stock if you're planning on selling the car? |
