Heading over to LRP in 27* f temp on my all season set. So the drive to the track should be a lot safer vs RR on the rear and RE-71R on the front.

We go hot at 1pm-5pm at 42* sunny day.

Let's see what these UHP all season can do at 40*

All season at 45* sunny day - not a good idea.
After one session doing 61 sec at LRP

Now I know.

Are you really saving that much money with these mismatched setups? Are you factoring in the sets that you lose, like the one you just posted? I still don't get why you don't grab the set that works best for your intentions and just stick to it. I know I'm beating a dead horse here.

Given how much you like analysis I'd be interested to know the total tire cost and how that compares to buying RS4's or something similar, which wear like iron. How many sets of RS4s could get you through an entire year, 3? $3k total cost. If you save $500, is that really moving the needle? Seems like a rounding error for the total dollars put into your build.

It feels like apples to oranges trying to compare your PR's when you're changing tire setups every outing.

FWIW, I'm leaning toward the Continental Extreme contact force, which is intended to compete with the RS4 and seem promising.

I ordered a set of 275/295 Extreme Contact force to try out. Will do a head to head swapping between some R7s with ~10 HC at the track. I'm curious how they fair. Taking a couple buddies out for a test and tune day at HPR and will let them drive my car and coach them around for the day. Should be fun!

I think the challenge is Rhyary is doing like 40 days a year. That well over 3 sets of tires… But I agree with the idea of getting consistent and faster with a reoccurring set of rubber.

i am doing more than one thing.
Sometimes I am just curious, and I pay to learn.

Sometimes I just buy on price.
i bought 8 RE-71R because $182/tire.

On black Friday last year I bought 8 RR because $202/tire.

Today after one session. I mounted the RE-71R on the front, and they overwhelmed the rear Cooper all season, So I did 61-62 and had fun with oversteer.

It really pointless to always try to go as fast as possible on the best tires. I know I can go faster on R7 or A7. But am I learning to drive better?

Or am I having more fun?

So the best way to explain is that I am curious and I pay to see what will happen.

Okay, fair enough, let's say 40 days a year and 6 days per set of RS4s, $980 a set for 275/35/18, so $5,880 for 6 sets. Friends have said RS4s can last even longer.

In rhyary, example let's take the average of ($182 x 202)/2 = $192 x 4 tires x 6 sets = $4,608. We know 71r don't last as long as RS4, so you probably need at least one extra set, $5,376. Still not seeing where the savings is coming from.

I don't understand how mixing tires is more fun or helps you become a better driver. Introducing a random variable at each intersection is only going to hinder growth as you can't isolate that variable against all the others.

If you want to learn how to drive a car that's always changing its handling characteristics, why don't you just start messing with sway bar holes, or even easier, start cranking knobs on shock bodies.

Have you toyed with running street pads on one axle and a ferodo 3.12 equivalent (I know you're running ccb) on the other axle? Just to see what happens?

Do you also buy used brake pads?

I did in fact ran the front OEM brakes with the rear CCB for few track days out of necessity.

On the front I used the Pagid yellow RSL29 while the rear had the specialized pads that goes with the CCB.

It was fine but not ideal. I was happy to get back my rotors from Rebrake service.

Did not miss one track day.

I am using 19" wheels and the RS4 is not friendly to that size.

My trackdays are not always "normal"
Some days it is open track , and some days I buy both Advance and Intermediate 2 sessions.

So I have a lot of sessions per track day.
very busy but I like it.

I have been playing with my JRZ 4-way shocks a lot and can tune the car for each situation. It took awhile, but now clicking the JRZ to get what I want is very satisfying.

I used to have Hotchkis with 4 adjustments on the front and three adjustments on the rear.

I tried all the combinations to see how it feels. When I put the rear on full stiff the sway bar broke.

I switches to H&R non adjustable and use the JRZ to get what I want. I am happy with this setup.

Thanksgiving with the kids in San Mateo Calif. Oh boy, I dig the weather.
No wonder the track season never ends.

Car is in Autocouture for winter projects.
Zebulon front splitter modified to 4" for clearance and tunnels

Figuring out why no cabin heat. Something is strange (overheating on the way to the track, then fine all day) and the winter is the time to figure out the issue.

Removing the coolant thermostat for less obstructed cooling passage.

Removing the supercharger and doing spark plugs and other maintenance

JRZs rebuilt

Literally one of the biggest reasons I moved south: tracks are open all year.

When opportunity comes knocking, you can't just ignore it.

The Potenza S007 (not to be confused with the Potenza S007A) is a fast tire. At $132/tire I am not going to say no.

The combination of 265/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear has been on my mind anyway and after loading up on 265/35/19 RE-71R, I had to order 4 of these and now all set for a good test.

The compound is not exactly the same, but it would be close enough.

It's the Aston Martin OEM tire, hence the name (007 --> James Bond --> drives Astons). Very fast tire from what I have read. I believe the A is just the revised version with new tread compound. There's a run-flat version too.

2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

The Potenza S007 is Bridgestone's Max Performance Summer tire originally developed as Original Equipment for the 2013 Ferrari F12 berlinetta. Designed for high-speed vehicles requiring maximum levels of lateral force due to their sporty setup, Potenza S007 tires are performance tuned for dry and wet conditions.

Bridgestone is proud to have been selected to develop tires for the most powerful Ferrari series road car ever produced. The Ferrari F12 berlinetta ushers in a new generation of Ferrari 12-cylinders in the form of a car that delivers unprecedented performance (0-125 mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed over 207 mph) from an exceptional new engine, innovative chassis design and sophisticated aerodynamics.

Bridgestone engineers designed the Potenza S007 based on construction and materials technologies developed during Bridgestone's 14 seasons as official FIA Formula One tire supplier.

To meet Ferrari's specifications, these technologies were combined with Bridgestone's advanced knowledge of tires at the molecular level, helping to optimize the mixture ratio and reaction between carbon, silica and rubber, which reduces rolling resistance and fuel consumption. Potenza S007 tires feature an asymmetric tread design with wide outside shoulders and unyielding notched-ribs to enhance steering response and grip on dry surfaces. Wide circumferential grooves help channel water through the tire to preserve wet traction. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with two layers of spirally wrapped nylon to blend high-g cornering with high-speed durability. The casing features rayon cord and a specially tuned construction to enhance cornering grip, even under the most severe load conditions.

I appreciate your contributions rhyary for your weird setups and off brand tire choices. It would be boring if we were all the same.

Meh, it is really not that weird.
Just tires. No big deal.
I would not call Bridgestone off brand tires, they are just not Michelle PS4S or Cup2.

I have at the moment 30 trackdays on my calendar for 2022. I am not going to use $1800 Hoosies set.
