Circling back on my Harrop installation to replace quick connects with proper soldered connections. I've been seeing some quirky boost numbers where the PSI drops off and is sporadically jumpy during freeway acceleration. In the process I discovered that my boost hose was pinched down so it may have been a bad measurement. Nevertheless, I can finally stop thinking about the impact of this always-planned-to-be-temporary shortcut.

Pulled it out of the garage to do a compound and polish on the newly acquired E60 M5.

Tried to fix some rock chips with BMW paint stick and lacquer. I'm NOT happy with the results. Wish I hadn't even attempted it.

Even if that was not the issue, doing that is the best way to go. Can't tell you how many times I have had problems with automotive electrical taps and such over the years. Better to be proactive now and not find you have "gremlins" later!

It definitely can be hit or miss, and the color you are working with will also have a big impact on the results. I have had it go both ways over the years. I have found the best way is with extremely small amounts and very thin layers at a time, allowing it to dry completely prior to the next step. Otherwise you often end up with the "blob" effect. And even with taking your time and doing it this way I have had less than stellar results. Sometimes better to have the panel resprayed after all.

I definitely feel better about it now that it's done though I'm glad I saved it for later. Too much detail work to pull off well 8 hours into a day of wrench turning during the install. Looks like I still have a boost leak as the cause of what I'm seeing, assuming the readout is accurate. Two of the clamps on my throttle body boots won't torque so those will have to go. Going to start looking to see if I can do that without pulling the SC body, though I won't hold my breath.

Beautiful pup! Good on you for taking on the challenge. I have heard there are good ways to sign to dogs. No real right or wrong way but there are tips and trainers online!

Car feels great now and I shall no longer live with the embarrassment of the "clink"

CV joint is a walk in the park after rear wheel bearings. Nice job, my cv joint was binding so bad the bearings were out of round, so I replaced it.

Now this was far more rewarding.

From a non-functional rotary off eBay, used the buttons, ring and button cover $10.
