Congrats on all your acquisitions!

What you really need now is a proper towing rig so you can have a couple of these babies with you at every event with all the proper supporting stuff that you can put in trailer. Would be fun to have a Porsche and BMW at each event. And you can stop torturing yourself driving 500+ miles in race seats. Maybe even hire a driver for the rig who doubles as track support. Then you could fly in.

If you’re really considering going to the East Coast, I think having a solid trailering rig would make the experience much more enjoyable.

If by "real" trailering rig you mean the big-rig truck with multiple car space that might be a while, haha. It would be great to have this capability for sure though. I need a bigger place with enough property that I can just stow this in the backyard or something, which I'm looking into. Next couple years, maybe.

For now, the TrailEx trailer is pretty good and I'm looking into these Aerovault trailers to cheat on an "enclosed" trailer (2000 lbs weight):

Ahhh----didn't know you had the Cayenne and open trailer. Is that new? You drove the E92 to Chuckwalla in Nov right? Anyway, that's a nice setup that'll get ya going----stop you from driving 500+ miles in a race seat at least.

But yeah, I was talking about a bigger rig that could hold two cars. Seems like it would be fun to have the GT3 RS at any event, and then any one of the BMWs. Do you still have all three BMWs?

Yeah, it's relatively new - I only picked up the whole trailering rig in time back in May. The Trailex is on long term loan from nholmes, so it's just mine for a year or two until the Aerovault is ready. The trailer has definitely already saved my ass (figuratively and literally) in the time I've had it.

Completely delaminated tires at Sonoma, e46 blowing up its transmission at Willow Springs - the gearbox seized right as I finished loading it onto the trailer for the ride home. I have to say sitting in the Cayenne with the air conditioning cranked up to max between sessions has been sooooo good.

Yep, I have all 3 BMWs still. F82 is my "beater" now - since it was involved in a collision on the freeway, the valuation is too little for me to sell it when it's a perfectly good car after the complete rebuild I had BMW Concord put it through (full respray etc). Who knows, I might turn it into a turbocharged monster in the future, haha.

For spring rates, I stuck with MCS recommended to me via EAS - 13k/11k ( 728/616 lbs) springs for true rear coilovers. It *seems* to be working great for me so far - but I haven't had any real problem-free track days to really mess around with it.

I just got my ride height adjusted down as low as the coilovers will go, so I'll see how it is next time out (18/19th sept).

This winter after the last Bimmer Challenge event, I'm completely stripping down the car, gutting it as much as I can, carbon body panels, TC Design roll cage, and throwing a 4.7L carbahn stroker with race cams/dry sump. I figure I'll be the reliability guinea pig here.

Wow, that's some serious plans for the E92. Can't wait to see that in action. Dry sump.....oooh aahhhhhh.

I'm at 850/570 lbs on my MCS. Working pretty well at the moment, but always evaluating the feel of it. Tail end is feeling a bit washy in downhill braking zones. Not sure what's going on there.

I don't think I ever saw any comments on the aero. I don't think you had aero before, right? What was it like to drive with the aero?

After all this hardware awesomeness, I have to say I'm entirely disappointed to see a 2021 Miata in your garage list. And geez man, it's at the top of your list! Please explain yourself. Just kidding!

Haha, it's only because it's the newest one in the list. Once my 992 GT3 arrives in January it'll be at the top.

Aero was great - the amount of grip I had at speed even at the high ride height I was at was crazy; I had to dial the wing back because I had so much understeer (wrong ride height). Completely confident in the high speed sections at Sonoma and Buttonwillow. I didn't even notice my A052 had completely delaminated because the car just stuck to the corners. It was only in the slow speed sections at Sonoma that I was sliding all over the place.



We had put the ride height so high because we were worried that we couldn't clear the trailer, but Zebulon guys noticed a pic someone posted and said it was way too high and that if I had it no more than 3" the front/rear should be balanced. I'm also busy cutting out my fenders ala dogbone in order to get the downforce corrected in the front there as well. I think with wood blocks and the race ramps I have now it should be well enough to clear it.

The miata is actually a lot of fun. It doesn't have power but it fools you into thinking you're doing 100 mph when you're only doing 50 on a canyon road. All the other cars can eat that up and it'd be so boring that you have to be doing confiscate your car speeds to enjoy it.

Yeah, you can't have the car too high or the front aero just can't do anything. I never saw it when it was high otherwise I would have said something. Glad Zebulon was able to give you some heads up. Anyway, you'll be in better shape if you can keep that air from going under the car.

The fenders are definitely on the list to buy as well as a carbon hood; this is just a hackjob quick fix because lead times for stuff is long and I waited until it was too late to do anything, heh. I bought a set of 18x11s and 10.5s and I'm going to try to fit as wide a tire as I can up front.

I'm looking into off-site storage as well; I still have an E30M3 and E36M3 fetish! It's just the latest BMWs do nothing for me.

Carbahn says it's good for 607 flywheel HP with 100 octane gas, so we'll see. I thought about supercharged motor, but my engine is so old at this point it probably needs to be rebuilt and "while we're in there".

The biggest thing I'm running into right now is overheating despite all the heroic measures I've done to combat it. The last thing I'm trying prior to the conversion is a vented hood which I expect should help quite a bit.

My hope is that the new rebuild won't be so bad for running in summer weather.

Im noodling moving the air intake solely to the kidneys and running a second oil cooler in the driver side intake. Have it exhaust into wheel well and out the vented fenders. That and improve the existing shroud for the oil cooler.

First step is diverter going in. And maybe inline tstat.

I'm not sure about a vented hood alone solving heat problems.. I have one and my car is just a stock motor, stock intake, HFC xpipe + tune, do88 engine oil cooler, CSF radiator, etc.

Still getting reduced power on hot track days like 85F or above. The earlier sessions tend to be the best. Had some test laps done by a proper driver and he complained about it without me asking.

I'm getting the oil diverter valve done on mine now to try and give the car more time before hitting hot temps.

By the way, if you rebuild the motor, how does it work for keeping our cars plated and able to smog etc? I assume carbahn gives us a tune to run, but for smog we'll need to run the stock tune while it is being checked every other year curious to find out if the motors can run properly on a stock tune too

It's a good question, but my E92 is long gone from being a street going car now. I'm all in. I believe the previous Dinan motors were street legal, and I'd think you might be able to do the same thing here.

With proper ducting to the coolers, it should be fine. I ran on a 90+ degree day at BW before the supercharger and had no issues running full sessions. Full do88 kit, diverter valve, no vented hood, and a big splitter with no hole in the bottom.
