Probably because they don't have the ability to extinguish a lithium battery 🔥

Makes sense to some degree but also seams very shortsighted

Must not want the liability

I expected to see more electric BMWs in the pipeline, I hope a more modern version of I8 gets on the drawing board soon.
Wishful thinking.

I'd like to see a real performance hybrid, like a M240i or M340i that can do 50-60miles on pure charge for daily commute and rip it at the track on weekend without fear of running out of charge.

I do not think technology is available for this yet, at realistic real world pricing.

You'll see it soon though.

W206 C63 is said to have 65km range, so about 40 miles. That is the latest and greatest unreleased tech. Although those figures are estimates, could be more or less pure electric range.

I must have missed this detail along the way, could you point me to where this is shown/written for both (seats and mirrors)? Is this the new situation for only new BMWs?

40 miles of range is super pathetic

With todays battery tech it becomes a packaging problem when designing hybrid cars(batteries, electric motors, combustion engine, auto trans, and all components that go along with both systems). You can only find room for so many batteries. Doing this all while also trying to keep weight down some what, has to be difficult. It isn't like a pure EV, where you can keep packing in battery cells all while having room for electric motors and even two trunks(front/rear).

There really isn't anywhere else to put batteries, unless they start eating into trunk space(which I would guess is already happpening).

Way to complex to own IMO

I understand what you're saying and it's valid for sure I still think 40 miles is pathetic

I'd rather have one electric car and the other gas until the packaging and weight is seriously reduced

I hear you, definitely a valid take.

Merc is going to sell it as trickle down tech from Formula 1. Using the E-turbo, it is rather interesting tech to be honest. Here is a video describing how system works.

I can see the marketing already and the heavy use of the "EQ" name/branding when it comes to AMG - it's the basis for their EVs. Mercedes isn't wrong to do it but I would be extremely interested to see the reliability and durability for something that is based off of F1 tech.

You are right - sorry, my bad. The option code 711 is the way to go, feels fantastic and can't live without it.

I'm cool with 40 miles as it means most days I'd be on battery only and the weight from the battery pack isn't too much. I think a lot of people will be similar there.

As long as I have a V8 and a large fuel tank I'll be happy

Try an electric car as your daily with well over 200 miles of actual range

The money you will save will pay for the fuel to power your V8 and some

It's a win win

@ynguldyn

I have ordered my i4 M50 and cant wait for it to arrive! :-)

Thinking about changing out my X5 40e as well. Do you know if the iX M60 will have a bigger battery pack than the 112kwh in the i50? I read some roumour about a 120Kwh pack.

Thanks.

Any word on when the EU will get the 230i coupe and the M240i (rwd) will become available?
This is probably going to be fall 2022 at the earliest isn't

Congratulations.
In the next few weeks I will be attending an iX and i4 symposium and competition driving comparison. Looking forward to see how good the M50 is.
