So there I was out driving one day and decided to do a little more spirited driving on the highway. started to hear a noise a bad noise the kind none of us want to ever hear coming from the car. I decided to pull of the highway and on the off ramp after I pushed in my clutch I lost everything done ka-put the car instantly shut off. coasted the car out of the way on a little pull of and thought oh crap don't do this to me. tried started the car turned for a second started and then made an awful noise kinda squeaked as well and shut off. by this point I've decided thats it my S65 is dead my dream car is now just as far aways as it was before I bought it. About two months after that and alot of liquid courage I walked right up to that pretty girl and tried my luck put the keys in said be sweet to me baby and pushed the button. It started it turned over just fine I walked away from the car in complete awe trying to decide what is even happening in that moment. decided I'd let it warm up and try and check the oil level but that idea was cut short when I started to hear a weird noise wasn't quite like a rod knock but it wasn't necessarily not a rod knock got scared and shut it off I decided I'd try my luck again this time when I pushed the start button it made a not very happy noise and definitely didn't sound like a normal start up but the noise almost instantly went away at idle so I waited a little while listing from every side of the engine bay then that noise came back so I turned it off again. about another month passed and me and another car buddy of mine are by the car talking about it and I decide to show him I push the button and he makes a face and steps back then again idles fine and we both scratch our heads going wth so I turn it off and his wife walks over wondering what's going on with the car they haven't seen in months I do it again this time I start the car no noise sounds like a completely normal start up and idles fine so with nothing to show I turn it off and haven't messed with it sense then but my thoughts were if I had spun a bearing that day then that would be it the damage is done and it will forever knock until fixed or replaced but being as it will idle and sound fine am I just at the tipping point of the death of another S65. please give me any thoughts and or opinions.

What happened over the months the car was sitting mate, changed oil, checked oil filter, checked codes, anything?

I assume there's a reason you've just let it sit there for months instead of towing it to a workshop to get it fixed?

You’ve let it sit for months, started it a few times (potentially causing more damage), and haven’t seen a mechanic?

I just bought a house im wondering after hearing that do you guys thinking even worth trying to do rod bearings or should I just look at a hole re-build/used motor

was only about 2k miles on that oil haven't checked the filter or the pump im hoping to tear into all of it sometime soon but I have to do a motor swap in the work getter first

I don't understand why you don't take it to a mechanic for a proper diagnosis. All you've done here is describe a few random noises 🤷*♂️

Dude, this isn't a contest for shittiest short story telling. I read half that wall of text and gathered the rest from the other comments; paragraph spacing is your friend btw.

You need to either take it to a mechanic, or put it on a lift/jack stands and start tearing the bottom end apart to take a look at your rod bearings.

You also said in one part that "it didn't sound like knocking"…so I would suggest a mechanic if you're unable to diagnose yourself before tearing it down.

Just get to the point next time and not a wall of text. We will gladly help, but this is really difficult to do so with what you've written.

Step one would be to pull the oil filter and look for any small shiny metallic flakes. Using a flashlight, look closely for small flakes in the filter and housing. If you can get oil out of the filter housing, check that as well.

Good luck. Engines don't miraculously heal themselves.
