Rein vs Gaba water pump shady....

2 x (new) Rein pumps.
1) Ordered from RA as new, beat pretty bad blades were chipped, sealing surfaces dented, all over scratched dented and chipped. Replacement, pump is worse than the first, this one doesn't spin freely and takes real muscle to turn it and dents/dings are worse than before. Sitting on it for now.

Decided to order a Geba pump for $100 more. How could it be the same? Pumps are identical, They clearly used the same parts. Only difference is the pulley hub. it says Geba on it but ever single part is identical. The pumps came out of the same factory. This pump is also very hard to rotate. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or am I stuck.

A huge majority of parts are made in the same place, a single factory that has the tooling and jigs from vendor contracts, or have shit jigs from copying and reverse engineering.

Now, some companies buy factory parts that failed o.e.m. q.c
Tests but still work and sell em anyways (grey market "o.e.m.", or have visual defects that do not affect function etc and that's how they're so cheap.
Some just sell shit parts and don't care.
Some sell knock off or copies
Some sell rebuilds (rarely worth it now a days since almost all rebuilds come from a handful of big box companies now

As for your part, as long as where the o-ring sits, and touches is clean and smooth, it should seal fine. Water pumps do not quite spin freely, there is a little resistance due to the brand new seals and packed bearings, but that's normal, they loosen up a bit after running for a while.

There's a reason that many don't believe as to why dealer parts are more expensive (though there are many cases of failed engineering for r.o.i., bad design, or hell even gouging to make some profit, so this rule isn't perfect but, what is)

Thanks, I just hate to pay twice the price for the geba when in every way it appears and feels identical to the rein minus the difficulty in rotating it by hand.

My Rein has been fine over the last two years it’s been on the car. Tstats a different story. I ate two BMW packed, but the aftermarket has held up for about a year now. I do track this car a few times a year.

Good info, I may just keep the Rein as it was half the price of the Geba and appears identical.
