I read this interview as BMW telling us "we don't care what the vast majority of buyers think. We know better than you, so GFY if you don't like it."
I'm old enough to remember the adage that "the customer is always right" and companies WORKED to win consumer approval and admiration of their products. Now it's almost like they think I'm obligated to buy their ugly-ass automobiles! :

Eh I don't care for the brand as a whole anymore. There's no feeling of cohesiveness of their marketing with their products and as you stated, they think they know better than their brand loyalists. I remember as a kid when my mom, uncle and dad all bought the same 1989 e30 325i in manual (all black too! Classic!) because they were great cars and drove it till it fell apart. I kept that feeling with me until I was able to finally afford my own BMW, particularly an M car. Yes I bought it slightly used, but I was holding off so I could buy the next iteration brand new. Now with this G series silly design, the poor marketing and the audacity of the designer, I'm glad I got the last great M car. I'll just enjoy this till the wheels fall off. =) |

They think they can treat bmw customers like they're buying in to the ferrari mindset but forgot they make bmw's. Hoping this is just banglev2.0 and go's away at some point or else my M550i will be my first and last bmw...

I pulled the BMW car sales for 2018 and 2019 in the US. 4 series cars average about 25,000 sales per year. If they are targeting 20% of buyers, that means that the target for the new, ugly 4 series is 20% of 25,000 or a target audience of 5,000 potential buyers/lessees. These guys have to go to business school, or maybe elementary school for a refresh of arithmetic.

when this car first came out everyone focused on front grilles and I was criticized for telling how ugly rear end is. I was called hater but people see it more now.
It really makes me think someone did it by purpose to cut sales numbers. I just can't justify that rear end and for some reason 440i and 420d have way better rear end designs than m4. Seems like f8x will be a great all rounder for many people for a long time. Also, I can not wait to see the topics about lag, width and fuel economy of the new g8x series. |

Those grills...make me happy I am not wanting a NEW BMW. The new front ends are some of the ugliest on the market hands down! IDGAF that dude had a vision and thinks he wants to be bold, he ruined the allure of BMW for me anyway.

I would also argue that the E65 trunk/bootlid treatment was actually preceded by the 94 Honda Accord & 98 Volvo S80. Those just flowed better than the E65 ever tried to.

If G80/G82 sales don't live up to expectations, expect (extra) discounts and denial, rather than an LCI redesigned front end and some proper soul-searching.
