Wonder why BMW only made that for the e46 and not the e90 from the factory.

This pic of the S65 getting dyno-ed shows a heat shield around the engine mount. Not sure why it isn't in the production car as it clearly needs it.

I've ordered the shields and Powerflex mounts. Let you know how they fit. I may also heat wrap the mounts, let's see how paranoid I wanna be.

As Redd noted above, it's the same heat shield that is used on the E36 and E46. It is captured between the engine mount bushing and engine mount arm, with a pin that keeps it from rotating. The body of it then hangs over the engine mount bushing about 1/2" away. Nothing to cause vibration there unless you didn't clock the pin correctly and it is touching the mount, frame rail or header:

As for the physical motor mount bushing, it's the same part number that the E36 uses, which makes it significantly less surprising that they break under an E9X M3:

Good info, if I revert back to OEM mounts may consider this as an add on.

I finally took a look and it appears my drivers side mount is coming apart. It’s hard to show with a picture given the tight space. I will probably remove the mounts to get a closer look. I just put my engine bar in the long term storage side of my garage, figures.

Pulled the mounts out and replaced with Corteco mounts. Significant reduction in NVH. Not in a hurry to put the vibra-techics back in.

Bubbles, your mounts appear to be in good shape tho? What's the mileage on them?

VT customer service has been disappointing. After one email saying "we'll get back to you today" 2 weeks ago, they have gone silent. Repeated reminder emails from me have gone unanswered. Definitely not gonna recommend their products again.

Approximately, 7k with several ambient temperature days of 30C (90F). My guess is the mounts have heat cycled beyond the useful life. The exposed part of the rubber is sticky and looked to be cooked. Check out the difference between the inner and outer rubber. I suspect our cars are in similar weather environments - hot and humid and if you add some oil from a slightly leaky valve gasket the mounts are cooked.

I wouldn’t reinstall the mounts without proper heat shields.

Too bad the M4 mounts don’t fit.

Yeah the M4 mounts look much better designed. At this stage I just want to repair the VT mounts and sell them off to someone living in colder climates. I'm in hot humid weather as well and it's definitely not for our temperatures.

Interesting. I have my car on stands now and it has the VT race mounts. I'll have to take a peek at them. I haven't noticed anything weird or suspicious though.

Years ago I replaced my engine mounts with Vibratechnics when I replaced my rod bearings. One of the mounts failed on me after one track day. I was lucky and the vendor who sold me the mounts gave me a full refund. They weren't sure if VT would refund them but they did it anyway.

Damn, I thought these were the best option for street cars. Looks like it's better to stick with OEM Corteco or the Gruppe N ones ($$$).

Anyone have experience with the Bimmerworld mounts?

I had bimmerworld, im going back to stock. The slight increase in Nvh is too much for me, I dont drive the car enough to live with a slight rumble all the time. OEM or nothing, I rather replace them every two years because it really isnt that hard.

Yes, it idles with more NVH. But that's it. I like it!

Just picked up my car with the BW performance mounts installed. There is barely any NVH difference, IMO. Can feel a bit more vibration at idle and when initially accelerating, but it's hardly bad. And it shifts way better under load. The 2 to 3 shift used to feel a little iffy, now it feels way more precise.

I was about to order VT mounts then I saw this post. Decided to go with BW instead since I'll be getting my rod bearings done next week.
