If we needed any sort of demonstration to highlight how BMW lost its touch, this was it. It actually is genuinely sad, the older cars were icons of the era & still are very attractive vehicles, while things now are trendy appliances, nothing more than a number on the financial statements.

Don't get me wrong, the G8x will crush the others in terms of performance, but it's sooo far from inducing a positive emotional response, which is what these cars are all about. F8x is a tough one to improve on, so I understand the extremist standpoint to an extent to show differentiation.

E46 & F80 will always be the two I gravitate towards, from both a performance & design perspective

To date, most track-capable M3 right out of the box. And, for example, the first and likely last M3 with a carbon driveshaft and strut brace.

And it's not even the one with the worst *exhaust* note. That'd be the E46's stock tin can.

Not controversial at all to me. I’ve owned every gen since E36 and the F82 is my favorite by a mile. I bought another one after seeing the G82 catastrophe, I’m skipping this new gen and possibly done with new BMWs forever.

The F82 is a damned stunner, it’s gorgeous.

Thanks btw! The F82 is the only car I’ve ever owned which I love all angles of. To me it’s just perfect nearly everywhere. The *only* thing I’d change are the hips, if it had F80 hips I’d lose my mind lol.

Now that is highly questionable based on the overall direction of bmw even beyond the GM 3/4 design fails.

As a fan and 30+ year owner I hope so, but something feels diff this time and it is quite concerning to witness them double down on absolute fails ....but we shall watch with all of you.

How about the size/weight of the E30 combined with the engine of the E9x and the drivetrain and looks of the F8x.

That F82 looks so good and that color (green) is fantastic!

Having said that the G8x is just a bad photography subject and will always lose in these battles. I suspect when more people see it in person they will rave about it but it just looks not great in photos especially after the super photogenic F8x series

Love the e46 and f80 as well, they are both my favorite generations. However, the G80 doesn't even belong in this equation!! It doesn't exemplifying what the ///M Heritage is all about. As NickyC stated, this may be it for me when it comes to BMW. The only intriguing ///M available is the M2C, or M2CS.
I am so disappointed with the aesthetics of the G80. Granted, it may perform better, handle better, and may have a faster 0-60 time, but 0-60 is just one of those things I don't worry about.

: Yeah, I'm one of those guys that believes in heritage, and the new M is far from it!!
