Help with Vanos trouble shooting

So to start this off I have had multiple codes, car is rev limited to 3500 rpm. When I disconnect the Vanos intake solenoid from power the car has allowed me to rev to 8400 with no issues for the past 8 months. I just got around to trouble shooting and noticed my solenoid wiring was supplying 4.4 volts. As far as I’m aware the sensors require 12v and now I’m unsure as to where to check after words.

first question is how is the oil level and condition? after that i would start by swapping parts, swap cam sensors from one bank to the other and clear faults, if that doesnt do anything swap solenoids from one bank to the other. if it doesnt move after either of those i would check signals and wiring from components back to dme comparing it to bank 1 that doesnt have faults. after that would be pulling valve cover and checking timing.

also if the oil was recently changed make sure the o ring is on the end of the center post of the oil filter cap

Thanks for the reply, not sure of this has anything to do with it but my valve cover has been leaking for a minute. Will check the cam sensors and Vanos solenoids and swap them. I’ve done all of my oil changes for years and never had an issue so that can’t be the problem, I also know how to do them lol. Will update if I figure it out after swapping everything.

they all leak from he valve cover especially oil cap i have 2 m3 and cant seem to get them to stop even with e36 m3 cap that fits tighter. had to ask about oil filter o rings, if i didnt and that was the issue would be a silly thing not to mention or check

Yup, o ring isn’t a issue but anything is possible. Tested both solenoids in the front of the motor and they both were fine with a power probe and the filters were like new in terms of cleanliness. So right now I just have these error codes
271d- Vanos control exhaust bank 2
271c-Vanos control intake bank 2

Sensors should be a 5v reference, not 12.

Check all ground and power supplies. If all are good and sensors themselves are good, then it must be DME (which is rare).

Yeah I figured out they weren’t meant to be 12 and at time 12v is applied to them. So I tested both solenoids with 12v and they were good, swapped cam sensors and the issue was still on bank one, all orings are in place and oil has been changed very often. I did get a 2779 dmed code out of nowhere so maybe that can lead me to the solution I will check my dme.
