If you have any major concerns you can always test drive one and ask to bring it home. The GT3's come from the factory with coilovers so it all depends on your ride height. Honestly I couldn't tell you the exact lift on them but it is significant.

Totally but I am not into adding that to the car. It's not a necessity but I would like the other updates of a 997.2 down the road too with the 3.8l too.

Can't speak on the 997.2 GT3s but on the .2S cars the front end was less bouncy, felt more buttoned down more like a front engine car. I loved my 997.1S.

After years of DD a 911 I don't see how you'd have any clearance problems at STOCK ride height. One of the big advantages over a corvette which seems to scrap everywhere- the 911 goes over crazy speed bumps, up driveways, aprons, bad parking lots, never scraped anything on mine.

Honestly I scrape more in the m3 at stock height, which is still pretty uncommon.

My Grand Sport does scrape on some speed humps and very steep driveways, but it has a very aggressive "stage 2" OEM ground effects kit. The regular Stingray, or a GS/Z06 with the "stage 1" aero (less aggressive chin spoiler) is totally fine.

Still have the 997.1 gt3 or went to .2 already. I'm planning a GT3 purchase next year and though I'd prefer the latest thing (991.2 manual), prices can get quite high but the 997.1 seems quite the car specially since they are well below 100k these days. Would you still recommend this as an addition to e90 or should I get the 997.2 instead?

The 997.1 gt3 is definitely a great car, and is very raw compared to an e90.

I really liked it when I drove one on the street and for a few track laps several years ago.

That being said, despite pdk, the 991.1 gt3 was simply phenomenal and the most exciting car I’ve ever driven.

The engine and transmission are leagues above the e9x and there is simply nothing like a Gt3.

If I was set on manual, I’d wait until I could afford a 997.2 at least. I wouldn’t get a 997.1 gt3. I think the suspension and engine upgrades are substantial.

Having experienced a 991.1 gt3, it would be hard for me to settle for anything less. That car is nuts in the best way possible.

Even if you’re a hardcore manual guy, like me, you owe it to yourself to try one.

Actually I testdrove 991.1 GT3 for about 45 mins and wasn't blown away by it. Definitely felt much faster than my e90 though; perhaps I need more seat time in it. But maybe my views on it were messed up because a couple weeks before I had driven a manual 991.2 GT3. now that felt special - also drove it for about 1 hour. Haven't driven the 997.2 GT3 yet but you're right. In the end it will probably be 997.2 or 991.1 for a 100-115k. I just don't know about the PDK yet (back story: I'm on my second e90; this one is manual but the last one was Dct and after a year and Half, the Dct became a little boring. Felt I needed to drive the car hard all the time to enjoy it. With the manual, not as much).

Makes total sense. Part of what made me love the 991.1 was experiencing it on track.

It’s also just the feel, grip and stability of it. The entire car feels on edge and reacts instantly to any input (turn in, braking, shifting, engine response)

It also comes alive (they all do) with a central muffler bypass. Makes a huge difference and sounds like a cup car.

Edit - never driven a 991.2 manual. Have seat time in the 991.1, 991.1 rs, 991.2 rs. I prefer the driving experience of the 991.1 to the 991.2 at least in the rs. The engine sounds better and it feels a little more raw. Of course they are all amazing.

Nice fleet of cars to spend time in. Can't believe you drove a 991.2 RS already. How was that? I was supposed to drive the 991.1 rs myself but my boy ended up selling it. Those get a lot respect from everything I've read. That 4.0 engine!!! I track my e90 1-3 times a year and it's so frustrating trying to change gears myself lol so like you said 991.1 GT3 on the track might be the sweet spot (specially since I'm keeping the e90 a bit longer).

I liked the 991.2 but honestly I didn’t think it was any better than a 991.1 at least on the street. Talking gt3 rs here. I’ve never taken the .2 on track, only the .1 rs and gt3.

Personally I’ve been manual or bust my whole life, but the gt3 revs so fast I actually enjoyed the car with pdk-s as it allows me to really interact with the car and take advantage of the drivetrain which IMO is what makes it the most special.

But it depends on your perspective. I’d love both manual and pdk-s gt3’s.

I’ve also driven mclaren 570s, 720 and Ferrari 488.

Gt3 or gt3 rs would be my pick hands down over those.

I recently had a chance to drive a 997.2 GT3 and I fell in love with it. Prior to driving it my favorite 911 was a 997 GTS. The GT3 is in a completely different class. Gearbox, clutch, steering, brakes (CCB).... I honestly don't know what could be improved on it from the standpoint of pure driving experience. The only thing I don't care for is the wing..... if they made a 997 GT3 Touring i'd probably be on the hunt for one.

You could just do a wing delete. Can't be that difficult to do and reverse if necessary.

Was the clutch as heavy as I've read about on the 997.2 gt3? how does it compare to driving e9x m3 (specially if yours is manual too). thanks
