I assume you were running a spacer up front? If so what size? I'm running a similar setup with MCS 4-ways and a 6 inch spring up front with no helper. Just trying to figure out what assortment of spacers I will need up front.... I am thinking of 5mm and 10mm? This is with a 18x10.5 et22 wheel. Looking at both 275/35/18s up front and 295/30/18s.

Alright Nitto NT-01 guys... do these have another track day in them? They've seen 3 days, 21 sessions, 150 laps. I set a PB at Laguna on the last lap of the day on Sunday, so they seem okay. I don't want to do anything stupid though.

Send it, tread depth "dots" look decent still and wear looks even. Those are good until they cord. Just bring spares next couple of days so when they do your day's not cut short.

When these tires came out and were really competitive, people would have them shaved to this depth from NEW and start running them like this. So yes, they still got days left in them. Those dimples (holes) throughout the tire are what you use to gauge the rubber remaining, when they disappear then they are done. |

depends. for laguna? yes, they're ready for another day. i wouldn't take these to auto club or big willow though. those tires look very well worn and even. i'd say they have another day in them at least.

Absolutely use them, but check after each session. Run to the cords. I'd bring a spare set with if you're doing a 2-day event, those may not make it a full weekend depending on how you drive.

Thanks. I was pretty impressed with it, definitely drives like a smaller truck despite being the same size as everything else. They're priced very well and dealers will negotiate down pretty far. If I wanted a comparably equipped Ram [Rebel] or F-150 [Lariat], it would've been another $5-8k. I don't trust Ram reliability and that 12" screen is a headache to use while driving, plus I could not find one withing 300 miles that had the equipment I wanted. The F-150 is just feeling old -- plus the 21s aren't even on lots yet. I drove the Sierra and the interior was a joke, even in Denali trim. It did have very impressive features but really just felt like a $40k Silverado with a different emblem and some flashier wheels. I'm waiting to see if any good aluminum open trailers come up for sale locally, used. Featherlite 20' with e-track is my ideal trailer but they're about $7000 new. Worst case is I buy a used steel one and just keep my eyes open for the Featherlite later on.

Thinking about stretching out to some new tracks in 2021. Sadly, those new tracks mean I will have to drive 5+ hours. (If you care, the tracks will potentially be head south 5 hours to VIR and head north 5 hours to Lime Rock Park)
Those who trek long distances to the track solo, how to you make the best of it to make it less mind numbing and make it safe. It could be done in a day, but I will most likely drive the day before rest in a hotel, attend the event, then drive home after the track day. I welcome any tips/suggestions on what you do even if it is as simple as you crack 5 Red Bulls or something silly. |

i wouldn't do a four hour drive, track all day, then a four hour drive home. that is too much. there is a track in central california that is about three and a half hours away and its on the borderline of being too far.
laguna seca is about a four and a half hour drive for me and its too far for a turnaround trip. i'm pretty beat after a track day and just want to eat, have a few beers, and hit the sack. if i tried to drive home, i'd probably fall asleep. plus, when you're tried, your decision making starts to suffer. think about changing a tire in the dark after a 15+ hour day. no thanks. air bnb has been great.

I usually do the drive home after. For Laguna (4.5h), Sonoma (6h) and Thunderhill (7.5h) I'll go up the night before and get a cheap hotel, then after the track day just load up on coffee and Red Bull and put on some good podcasts or an audio book. For those ones I'll carry my track tires in the car, but for closer trips I'll drive to the track on them.

The trick is to just have transit days before and after the event.
