SRF brake fluid for street use?
Wondering if anyone would recommend Castro's SRF React Racing brake fluid for "enhanced" street use?
I live in San Francisco, the hills are steep af... and I figure the fluid might be an improvement over oem fluid? Anyone else running this for the street? |

It certainly won't hurt anything. I don't know how much it will improve your pedal feel but if you fell like you often are overheating your OEM brakes it might be worth a try and worst case you're already setup and ready to go with good fluid if you ever do a track day.

It’s fine for the street, just way more costly than you need and it’s not the least compressible fluid if that is the goal.

I wouldn't waste the $70... Plus you're taking supply and driving the price up for the track oriented folks.
I kid, but SRF has been known to become unavailable resulting in TP hoarding like tendencies.

Yes, it's a long lasting track fluid as it requires little to no bleeding between events. But if you're not tracking your car the BMW interval is already 24 months on OEM fluid.

If your brake fluid is old, flush it with a quality brake fluid. You will never get to overheat any kind of brake fluid on street driving unless you're hitting triple digits and slamming the brakes hard between stoplights for every stoplight for many miles.

This. Not worth it if you have no plans to track the car. It'll work fine for street driving but you're really throwing away $50-$70.
You may benefit from better street brake pads. They'll dust less than stock and stand up better to repeated hard braking on the hills, but you won't boil your fluid that way.

I currently use RBF660 in all my cars but I notice that this fluid gives you a lot longer pedal travel vs. other fluids. Some including myself would prefer a firmer pedal feel. I wonder if SRF will give this?

Endless will give you this. SRF doesn't feel particularly firm.

Be careful with SRF. You really need thorough flush of old fluid as SRF is Hydrophobic while regular brake fluid is hygroscopic. If old fluid is left, SRF will isolate it and eventually wet pocket will be created which will turn itself into air pocket. So, IMO 3ltr of SRF for proper flush first time.
