You can see some fender flare action going on in the front of the car, if this is a 35/45 model, then the G87 should have some nice wide fenders

G87 M2 Discussion

Ok so we all know the current gen m235i xdrive sedan has a b48 under the hood. We also have come to be fond of the m2 because of it's size and relative similarities to the original M3. Imagine this. BMW having already designed the g chassis 2 series to be powered by a 4 cylinder mill decides to have BMW M designe an S variant of the B48 which can already derive from its P48 variant in the 4 series DTM cars. Mates it to RWD and a 6 speed manual. This would be a modern day return to the original M3. Not to mention the m235i weighs in at 2600lbs as a sedan with xdrive. A 450 hp m2 weighing in at 2500lbs would have the same power to weight ratio as a 650hp s55 powered M2comp. And for a competition example the new m2 could feature an xdrive system much like the new m3/m4 with available rwd capability. Thoughts anyone?

The G87 is getting the S58 engine that is in the G80/82 . . . and I have a hard time believing the G87 will weigh in at anything less than the 3600 pound F87.

I do, however, like your thoughts.

CCM

We shall see . . . but, to my eye, the G42 looks to have significantly less fender flare than the F87.

Lol the M235ix is 3600 lbs!
And the G42/G87 uses a completely different platform that is perfectly capable of housing an i6.

I like what I'm seeing. If it drives with similar dynamics to M340i but in a smaller footprint, it's gonna be a winner. Hopefully the line between M-performance and ///M will be blurred more on the G42. I want mine in AWD in 2022 when our M340i lease is up.

The M2 originally got the N55, and I've read the M2C was somewhat forced into the S55 due to the N55 no longer being emissions compliant. Is there definitive confirmation the G87 will get the S58 right off the bat? Although chances are good it will initially come with a detuned S58, I don't think it's certain. Later in the lifecycle, however, it's probably a safe bet.

The size looks right as does its silhouette. I hope the build quality is better than current gen 2 series coupes. The G87 in RWD, S58 engine, under 3500lbs, with carbon bucket seats will be a winning recipe!!

If the regular cars are made in Mexico, for sure the M2 will be made in Mexico as well.

I think the guys working on this know how much EVERYONE hates the 4 series grill and put an extra short opening on the camouflage over this one.

I don't know how you are getting these weights because they are wrong by more than 1000 lbs! Lol

All I know is next time I weigh myself I hope you are the one who designed the scale!!!

Scott26 has said the next 2er is going to have the bigger/longer grilles, but not as extreme as the new 4er. I'm hoping it will be like the 3.0 CSL Homage Concept.

This is being different without destroying the design. Not the current G80 garbage.

Not sure why they couldn't do this with the G80

I agree. This isn't bad. The new 4 is just god awful. I just saw an ad for it and BMW only show the back 3/4 view. Hahahah

Looking forward to an M2 with and S58 and 6MT.

Looks bigger than the old one so not the same size as the e46m3 which was one of the bonuses of the old one that it had the same wheel base as the e46

What's wrong with the F22 build quality? I had an M240i for 3 years and I never had a single complaint about build quality.

less ugly but still ugly. why. why bmw? Did the company never hear of focus groups?

On a wide, low car a tall grill looks ugly and makes the car look ungainly. If BMW designers feel a need to stretch the grill, stretch it horizontally, not vertically. The current Merc grills are so much nicer.
