when your indy shop refused to top off, were you given an explanation?

half way mark on the e-dipstick is GOOD
no need to add oil until it is below it

so if that was the indy shop's reason for not topping off, then i see no problem

Still under 3K since the last oil change. (My current indy shop twice refused to top off the oil at the last service. Drove out with the e-dipstick at half full. Maybe I need a new indy).

2. I passed 77K miles. That's 51K in just under four years of ownership, with overall average of 7.7K miles per year of life (build date 10/10).

3. Trip MPG: 20.4.

3. While I cruised in the center or right lanes at normal highway speeds -- 75-80 mph -- many cars would approach quickly on the left, pause behind my rear quarter panel, accelerate, pause again in front of my front fender, then shoot off. What to make of that?

4. At literally every gas stop, two per leg, a Black guy (just citing the truth here) would give me a compliment or and/or ask about the car. I'm as White as they come. It was always a pleasant moment in the annals of race relations.

5. In contrast to my former e36 and e46 M3s, the e92 is a comfortable long-distance cruiser, as well as all-around daily driver. BMW achieved a miracle with our beautiful cars.
I have the same issue with oil. She burns/loses 1qt every 2k miles. Shop where I bought the car from ran a dye test and didn't find any leaks. I'm taking it to my indi tomorrow.

Common cause is valve cover gaskets (less common is a warped cover). Oil seeps out while running, mostly evaporating in the engine bay.

I have the same issue, generally have to add 1qt every 1500-2000 miles. Been living with it until I do the rod bearings. Although the 1qt every 1500-2000 always seems to be when I'm on a date or hungover.

^ oh man. my car only has 48k. Isn't that a littler early for valve cover gaskets?

it could be but what oil are you running? I had the same problem with running factory BMW oil. Switched to Motul and never had the issue ever again. Might be worth it to change.

Actually, I tried, but couldn't figure out how to disconnect that plug. Seems like there is a password or secret procedure to do that! Doesn't come off.

But, with this information of yours, I now understand that it is very important to do, so I'll do some more research. Thanks.

you must go stage 2.... you will. I went stage 1, within 2 weeks I got test pipes and then really got to see a difference. Still an improvement for stage 1 vs OEM, but not easy to notice.

For the purpose of keeping my marriage intact I'm likely keeping the exhaust as stock as possible. In fact I did the cold start delete to try to quiet the car down, with a 2 year old my wife was going to murder me everytime I started the car up with the Eisenmann Race I had on originally and woke up our son.

I'm not expecting too much, but with the overdue plugs, DCT + Stage 1 I'm expecting things to be a lot smoother overall, and hopefully now I can continue to fly under the radar with the stock exhaust on.

Ha I understand! last year when I did my stage 2, I also had a 2 year old (now 3.5 y/o) but with the cold start delete, the wife doesn't notice anymore. I have the Corsa rear, so it's very mellow on start up and piddling around town, only gets loud when on the throttle in mid-rpms. So she hasn't ever complained yet.

If I can find an E90 M-performance exhaust one day I may do just that, switch it out before anyone notices. The Eisenman Race sounded great but there was still a lot of low end drone that it even annoyed me at certain RPM's on the highway. It wasn't "bad" but I'm half deaf anyways so I can only appreciate so much sound.

You must try the Corsa... ive heard the MPE, and a lot of others... the Corsa WITH Test pipes, is Incredible. ZERO drone. ZERO rasp... very clean and great sound. I was shocked when I got it and swapped out with the OEM mod. it's hands down the best with a primary decat IMO

I can't say I noticed any immediate difference. The car feels very strong but since I've only got 500 miles on it tonight was the first good shake down. Pulls hard all the way up through 4th and then shut it down.

The DCT tune does feel smoother at lower RPM and I notice it takes more to shift into 7th now so it doesn't lug as much in D3 as it had been.

Full throttle on the highway though it's just a beast.

With the new DCT tune does it shift much faster from reverse to drive?

Only backed out of the driveway once, can't say I actually noticed. Will have to live with it for a while. I do like that it goes straight into Drive though rather than requiring two taps.
