maybe once they decided to keep the 2 series rather than nix it, the only way was to leverage a shared platform, the clar, otherwise it wasnt going to be worth it to keep the 2 series.

but in doing so they knew i think, the 2 series replacement g42 was not going to any longer have a mere evolutionary size bump, but a sizeable increase.

it looks to be so in the spy shots the past couple of months.

CLAR doesn’t mean it has to grow though. The G29 is built on the CLAR platform and it shorter in length than the current 2 series. Add back seats to the G29 and it still isn’t a big car, probably about the same length as the e46 coupe

I think G42 will be similar to G29 with roof, back seat & bigger trunk.

i see that you're right. in which case, with the photos seen so far, the rear seat leg room of the g42 better of grown by six inches.

Z4 & Supra are also on the CLAR platform

Rumour is that the G2 will be based on their platform...

Looks good but still big.

I like that the profile is returning more to the E8X generation 1-series more boxy and classic BMW.

Just wish they keep the size and weight down

On the subject of weight, can we at least hope that they don't make the sunroof standard on the 330?

Nothing unexpected with the 'big' G80/82 release today . . . hideous and heavy as shit (RWD 3900 lbs).

G87 just keeps sounding better and better . . . and I have plenty of F87 time to wait.

///AVM is right again. The new M3/M4 is hideous and weighs 3,900 pounds for the RWD version. The AWD version will be 4,000 pounds plus and you will feel the weight in turns around town.

As much as the newly released M3/4 continue to make my stomach churn, I sure hope the G87 M2C inherits those fucking sweat-ass seats!

With the G80/82 series...

The new double claws style digital instrument cluster is

Give me back that classic BMW cluster or give me a true racing style cluster dominated by a tachometer, a speedo with EGT, water temp and oil temp readings on the side

I am quite disappointed with the amount of weight gain but guess there isn't much Markus Flasch's team can do as they are constrained by the inherent footprint of the G20/22 chassis

I am resting my hope on the G87 M2

It looks good in the side profile pics. I don't dislike the looks of the new G80/82 M cars like most of you seem to, but this new 2 series looks better in camouflage than those cars did. Hopefully this bodes well for how it will actually look.

I'm not sure how I feel about the lights from those leaked pics.

I got a feeling the G87 M2 will look really good.

Me too . . . I think the G87 M2C will be great, but we MIGHT not like the instrument cluster???

Getting back to those seats . . . I saw a new 21' M235i that just arrived to local BMW dealership and the seats (bottom pic) were very similar to those in the new M3/4 (top pic). This reassures me the G87 M2C will include something very nice, if not identical to the G80/82 seats.

G42 BMW 2 Series Spied testing at the Nurburgring

A new video has been taken of the G42 at Nurburgring but looking at the exhausts and mirror caps, could it be the performance 35i/40i model?

Yep absolutely Cerium Grey wing mirrors there.

I assume that means this was a B58 I6 in a small(relative to siblings) RWD package.

Yes 👍🏻

Just imaging the S58 and some ///M parts in the G87 . . . these babies are going to sell like hot-cakes.

Scott26 has said the next 2er is going to have the bigger/longer grilles, but not as extreme as the new 4er. I'm hoping it will be like the 3.0 CSL Homage Concept.

That is so hot bro! I've never seen that one before thanks for sharing!

It could be the wrap but it looks longer and taller that the current 2. I'm not sure that's a good thing.

The subtle but noticeable swollen body lines around the wheel arches on all 4 corners looks to be BEGGING for a box-flare comeback on the next M2.

Really thought BMW would pull the trigger on the G82 in that regard but S.O.L. I guess...

SF

I love me some fender flare. One of the features BMW just nailed earlier on, e.g., with E46 M3. Just looks awesome!

Unfortunately, I do not see it in the G42 and, thus, doubt it will appear in the G87.
