No they don't. As long as it was installed in a BMW Authorized reseller, the warranty on the car does not get voided. Budds BMW here in Toronto has been doing Dinan for years and the factory warranty carries over. Unless something has changed in recent years.

Correct. Dinan parts do not void the BMW warranty.
There are however certain Dinan parts that are deemed as “Race Only”, which “may affect the BMW warranty”... So, just as Gordon.M3 stated, you just have to have those parts installed by a BMW dealer, which is an authorized Dinan distributor (which most are). Here is the actual disclaimer for Race Only parts: “RACING ONLY PRODUCT: Due to the nature of the intended use, Dinan Racing Products are guaranteed against defects in workmanship only. These products are not warranted against wear and/or failure under any circumstances. These products do not fall under the standard Dinan Limited Product Warranty. Racing-only parts may also affect the BMW warranty and emissions warranty.” |

Stroker engines from Dinan were no good anyway, they don't have the tolerance data from the supplier they used to do their 4.6L kit. And most of the parts were custom and not off-the-shelf. I'm sure moving forward, Carbanh won't make this mistake but you never know...

BMW is not in partnership with Dinan. People thinks that because a lot of BMW dealers were Dinan dealers as well. BMW dealers was asked to drop Dinan as there were too many issues with warranty ans too many customers thought the same as you. This information is directly from the BMW that I bought my car from abs also confirmed with a service advisor at another local dealer that used to be a Dinan dealer as well. There was never a partnership or agreement. Right from Dinan themselves. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=284 Here's more information to read. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1422170 Last edited by M4_GTS; 09-07-2020 at 09:59 PM.. |

Interesting read but has this been the case since day 1 of Dinan's existence or after Steve Dinan sold the business? Who needs a warranty on a nearly 10-year-old car anyway? The only way you'd still have a warranty from BMW is if the car was sold as a CPO no? All cars are past the 4-year mark already for the remaining balance of a factory warranty. I've had plenty of friends with leased vehicles and modified far beyond factory spec and still kept their factory BMW warranty. Never had they had issues with returning their leases or claiming warranty. If you plan on modifying a car and having the dealership notice, that's a risk you'll need to assume regardless of the manufacturer. Isn't this common sense? ![]()

Dinan tunes/product do not void the BMW warranty, this is a fact (unless it’s a Race Only Product). I too could hardly believe it when I heard it, so I called several BMW dealers to confirm. Further, I’ve had a Dinan tune installed, by a dealer, into my M3 when it was still under warranty. You should call your local BMW dealer to find out. This is the entire reason why Dinan can charge so much for their conservative tunes/mods. |

Dinan got a good marketing team that leads you with their "wording" to make you think that they work with BMW. Because of this BMW dealers in Canada was asked to drop Dinan. Some BMW dealers still offer Dinan and get by this through their performance division. So many people also get tricked because they think Dinan is in partnership with BMW just because their local BMW dealer sells Dinan. I am sure the ppl that works at the dealer will also lead them to believe that as well to sell more Dinan products as it's got a good profit margin. |

You pay to play, whenever you modify a car outside of what it was originally intended to have, you accept the risk. If you can afford the car, you really should be able to afford the repairs needed for it. But if you are banking on a warranty then you really should just leave the car STOCK. Now that is some "common sense" for you. Quote:
And like I said before if you do have a warranty and plan on modifying the car beyond factory specifications there is always an assumed risk.

But on the other hand, I still find it funny how some people are ignorant enough to believe a Dinan tune would "automatically" void their factory warranty when people have been getting away with far heavier modified cars for the past decade by having the car flashed back to stock before any major warranty claim or service. As for Budds BMW offering Dinan Products. Do only offer it through their performance division and thats how they get away with it. I have explained that already in a previous post. I have a friend that knows the owner of the dealership very well and was told exactly that. Here's a link to their performance division that's part of their auto group but operate under a completely different company name. https://www.buddsperformance.com. If you have any further questions, do feel free to ask and I will see what "correct" and "validated" information I can provide for you. I did get tricked by their marketing department and that's why you live and learn from your mistakes in life. I am also willing to admit and accept that without shame. But by the look of things in this thread, apparently not everyone can. ![]() |

Comparing modifying cars to murder, great analogy. Close but nowhere close. I guess that's what happens when people have nothing else to argue about but can't take the criticism when questioned about it. Regardless if it is a Performance Division or not, Dinan products are still offered indirectly through Budds BMW in their parts department by employees employed by Budds BMW. Unintended or indirectly or not, and if we use your analogy of "murder" some may say it's potentially considered manslaughter. I'm done replying to you if you continue to bicker on a topic that was totally unrelated to the original intention of this thread. Thanks for the input and have a great day.

So turns out everyone was correct in this argument in their own way.
I called the BMW of San Francisco, and spoke with Lucas, their Sr. Service Advisor. He stated that a major change in this matter took place about a year ago. He said that historically Dinan parts did NOT breach the BMW warranty, but the dealers were getting so many new cars coming in with issues, that BMW decided to withdraw from their relationship. He said that people with Dinan parts tended to typically push their cars harder and abusing the warranty. And when Dinan only covered the parts, not the labor, this created problems. Now, if a car comes into the shop with Dinan software it is automatically flagged by their computer in their system. And if an issue evolves which is related to performance software, any parts related to this software won't be covered under BMW manufacturer warranty. And further, if a tech sees a Dinan part (or any other performance mod/part) installed on the car, they will manually flag that car into their system, so any problem arising related to that particular part, will now not being covered under BMW's warranty. I haven't spoken to Dinan yet, so I don't know whether they will cover this portion of the warranty which is now voided once their parts go on, but we'll see. Additionally what sux for us, is that BMW dealers will no longer upload Dinan software onto our ECUs. I'll follow up with an update once I get a chance to speak to Dinan about this. |

Dinan is now under different ownership (part of the APR brand, relocated from the Bay Area to the South), and Steve now runs Carbahn. That said, the Dinan catalog for the E9x cars is still high quality stuff from when he ran the company. With these cars out of warranty, I still don't see why this is an issue here (plus a lot of their parts are now discounted from their initial release price). If you have another BMW still under warranty, congrats, do what you want, but it's not really relevant to this convo, or the parts we are discussing on this forum. It's really a different company by the same name now, so do your own homework on their parts/warranty for new releases.

Exactly. Totally agreed. I’m about to put some Dinan suspension parts into my M, and already run the underdrive pulley, intake and software (the three of which are amazing combo), which makes me a Dinan believer; you make a good point about the parts for our cars from an era when Steve Dinan ran the company.
I was just clarifying the misunderstanding of whether Dinan parts void the factory warranty or not. Now can we get back to posting photos of our Dinan intakes! |

Said I'd post here so I'm finally getting around to it, haha. I've got a few miles with my recently installed intake now, so I'll chime in. I got mine about a month ago from a 3rd party supplier. It's most definitely a V2.
To start, the build quality and visual flair are both superb. Overall fitment is OEM level. New OEM BMW clamps are included, the rubber joints are thick, and the carbon elbow is solid. It adds a nice high end touch in the engine bay. I will note that depending on lighting, as discussed earlier here, the weave almost looks faux, like a sticker. Sometimes there isn't a whole lot of visible texture or depth. It doesn't look bad, but just something to note. Under LED though it "glistens". Shame the large blue filter isn't seen under normal conditions. Sound wise I've yet to hear an induction noise difference. Consensus is it's noticeable around 6k+ rpm with windows up. I haven't done the windows up part, so maybe more to come on that later. Performance I notice nothing, but I also didn't expect to. Driveability however, is apparent. I compare it to adding a larger charge pipe on a turbo car (which I did to my 135i). 1st gear take-offs and very low cruising rpms are smoother. I think I notice a slight throttle response improvement as well, but these engines are already well off in that regard. First picture is flash, 2nd is non, 3rd is a closer look, and last a quick video clip with flash on. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Same version/details and impressions as me. Funny how it looks like real CF in person, but somehow looks fake in photos. Either way, super high quality as you note. And agreed, maybe a little power and sound at high RPM, but nothing mind blowing. But response is improved, especially noticeable with DCT downshifts. Same with the pulley kit, but no beauty points there.
