Thank you as well. I have a couple of different pages in the MSX. One page i just have a little icon along the status bar pop up for oil 265 water 205. Then i have my dummy pop up which is set to oil 275 water 220. I have the temp numbers on always, sort of a three-stage temp alarm lol.

What's the point of an alarm if you have to ignore it all the time?!

I figure i can monitor the temps on the main screen, the oil and water lights go on to let me know "you're getting there", then the red pop up lets me know "hey idiot, back off"

Do88 oil cooler going in! Quite happy with their DCT and power steering coolers already. And yeah, I may as well grab radiator next sale!

Garmin has a new "real-time coaching device" that is complementary to standard telemetry and data acquisition tools.
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/690726 Peter Krause and Ross Bentley are strongly endorsing it and were involved with its development. Discuss.

It's a cool device for coaching- and it's coming out at the right time when there was already a movement to get coaches out of cars before Covid.
The down side is the lack of car data. Imagine this with the capabilities of an AIM...

'carry more speed', 'brake later' are pretty useless suggestions. We're tryin'!!

This is like a data coach, that looks at the squiggly lines and tells you 'brake later' and 'corner faster'.
Now, having a faster driver get into your car and set a reference lap, now that is another story! |

I'd love to see a review where they give one to several people at the same track on the same day:
1. a solo novice who has only a few track days under their belt 2. an intermediate/experienced driver who has never driven that particular track 3. an intermediate/experienced driver who HAS driven that particular track 4. an advanced driver (I don't think I would give this to someone with zero experience and send them out on track) Frankly, it's not clear to me who this is designed for, exactly. It all comes down to the context of the advice it gives...why should you go faster on the next curve? How do you know if you can go faster? How do you develop the instinctual skill? Otherwise you just get really good at following directions. Memorizing that corner X can be taken at some specific speed is fine, but what do you do if the car is suddenly on different tires or conditions change? Will it push novices too hard? Instructors and coaches will know how to gradually work someone up to the limits...would this tool just make them do something reckless or take them outside their comfort zone way too fast? Can intermediate or advanced drivers use this to identify and correct bad habits they've developed? Is it a useful tool for learning a new track more quickly? Is it a useful tool for finding better times on tracks you thought you're already quick on? Regardless, it is an interesting concept and I welcome new ideas in this space. If nothing else, it will be a kick-in-the-ass for other products to keep evolving and find new use cases to solve.

Anything to get AIM to live up to a "launch date" for new software. They're perpetually behind...

It can read data and tell you, but I don’t have confidence the algorithm is going to know better than someone sitting right-seat saying similar things lol

You joke, but I think this is possible even with today's tech. With some AI, machine learning, and a good enough camera, it should be able to identify background objects. Just think about how far facial recognition has come.

Hell, rhyary has a robot hollering out his speed at every turn. Lol
I'm sure you could program the thing to say, "be smoother" every couple of laps just to throw it out there.

So Peter Krause actually responded to my question about those 4 use cases:
I would say that this is not for stone cold novices. The new driver has great need for in-car instruction to assimilate wheel position, seating position, even the glossary that this device uses in order to convey opportunities for improvement. For 2,3 and 4, for sure this is the daddy. When Ross Bentley can find nine-tenths of a second on a new track (to him), this tells me that not only is the device processing driver performance at a high level, but also giving him actionable information. When executed, he gained time, which is what all of us want without adding risk.

After rewatching my videos and looking at the data more, it seems like I might have been turning in a touch too early on T6, realizing my line was "wrong", and then trying to add more steering when it was too late. I'm still thinking of adding the stage 3 front spoiler canards/winglets to help get a little more downforce up front for high speed corners.
