a) People with right foot talent that won't let you pass:

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and track events were affordable, I ran with the Porsche Owner's Club at the LV Speedway roval. I was in my grocery getter 1992 525i (manual, LSD, bilstiens/h&rs, Conforti chip with insane redline, decent brake pads). I could not get a point by from the VW's, errrr, air cooled Porsches. So I just dive bombed them in a spot where I had them down cold. Usually got a sheepish point by right then or in the next passing zone. When you have no regard for your car, those that do will let you by.

Richbot has the right idea. If a car suddenly appears behind you and you haven't just passed them, it's likely they are a lot faster than you. When it happens to me I assume that they are using witchcraft and block them at every passing zone. It's the right thing to do.

ii) harnesses: show of hands of how many people have released a harness while they are upside down...I'll wait... I have, albeit in a simulator. It was no fun then but I would not have wanted to go through the experience of several rolls in a 3-pt. Drive within your limits and always expect bad things to happen so you have a plan when they do (e.g., what will I do if some idiot dive bombs me going into this turn?).

Some great discussion. You spend $2-3k and tons of time getting ready, travelling to the track, patiently waiting for your run group, excited you line up.. straight into a train because some mouth breather won't check their mirrors. Then someone runs out of fuel and the session gets black flagged and boom it's over wait another 2 hours until the next go around

I find either lining up right at the front nets the most space but it's hard to know. There are also cars I see all the time that in my mind are notorious for very slow point bys, so I avoid lining up anywhere near them. Generally if you approach people in drivers meetings they are cool about it, but the damage is done by that point. I have no hesitation calling cars out to the chief instructor, because at the end of the day it's my time and money. I also have no hesitation giving point by's as chasing faster cars is awesome, it helps you learn and push harder.

Just asking because I've never done it yet- you can run a small air compressor off the positive terminal under the hood, right?

Could probably all be solved by gridding up/lining up according to PB on that track and none of that "car is capable of x:xx:xx laptime" bs. Been on both sides of the latter myself.
Typically only works with official timing so the organiser going through applications/registrations can actually verify.

What's this engine noise sound like? It's at low RPMs and can't feel any vibrations from engine. The engine mounts and rod bearings were replaced a year ago.

Just replaced the engine oil again with Liqui Moly but don't recall this noise last time I changed it. I had about 3 changes with OE oil which was pretty quiet.

Any guesses as to what it could be? It sounds like the secondary air pump nut that I dropped and lost into the engine bay last year is jumping around and hitting something as the engine vibrates at low RPMs, but it's probably not that or it is.

Bahaha I lost a secondary air pump nut in there last year too. Dropped a couple things last week that I never found either...

Yes. I do this with my viair compressor. Not sure if that's what you meant by small.

Does anyone else have an AIM MXS? I just got one as i wanted some more info out of the car.

I'm curious to see how you mounted it. I'm either going to try to fab up a mount for the steering wheel, or the idrive screen hole.

rhyary probably has my favorite setup where Autocouture did using the cup holder, ashtray, and console to mount/hide for of his car’s AiM stuff.

Yep, I have a vair for off-roading. It's overkill for this, but it's just what I use because I already have it.

I’ve used the air compressor in the trunk before. Never again because it takes forever and super loud. Since then I picked up the dewalt 20V inflator and it is awesome. Has a digital gauge so you just set the desire psi and turn it on. Takes about 10 seconds per 1psi and bonus for me because it use the same battery as my impact.

Yup - you might try a pound or two less if you're really doing more than a half lap cool down or if you've lost much weight (aside from titanium nuts and bolts).

Couple of seconds, but feels faster as they have so much grip. Confidence inspiring except when you start out at 21 cold.

What size are you running?

DH's take 30 hot, no matter the weight of car. This is direct from the Pirelli guys at the tire support during a PCA race. Don't go out below 24 cold, and don't hit the curbs on the warmup lap

Thank you. I shot for 32 up front kinda blindly and usually came in at 29 in the rears. I figured most of my weight loss is in the rear and it might help a little bit.
Overall, no complaints with these scrub DH's. Felt really good when I swapped after a 1/2 day on NT01's a few months back. I thought I would be faster, but willow springs is kinda rough and I'm not sure how many heat cycles are on these. I did note that after a warmup lap, they are consistent for about three laps and then they are just ok.
