Fingers crossed it fits well. Bimmerworld describes it as "Race/track pad with extremely high bite and torque for for very advanced and expert-level drivers" so I'm putting that on my resume.

It's an awesome deal for this much brake pad on the ST60 kit. PFC and others are charging more than twice as much for their versions and they're not even spray painted gold. I'll test it out may this weekend and then at the track a month later.

The ordering process is a bit... antiquated. Send in the order from the web site, then you get an e-mail with an order number and a phone call to pay over the phone. If it helps keep costs down, I'm all for it.

XP20 compound, part number CTM1247-XP20. This weekend, I'll check the dimensions of the backing plate against the ST street pad that ships with the kit to make sure it's a perfect match before recommending it.

Where did you source them and price if you can share? Let us know what you think. I've used the XP12 before and wasn't overly impressed, but always on the lookout for a decent pad under $400. I just went through a set of Cobalt Friction in 2.5 days, but I was running DHs.

Purchased direct for around 260 with shipping. These aren’t endurance pads so I don’t expect them to last too long.

Let us know how long those PFC 83 pads last you. I was told the XP20 compound is comparable to it which is why I chose that one based on CTs recommendation.

IMO they’re slower than the AR1s but only by a little. The wear is better I think.

Has anyone tried the SR33's from stoptech? I've read some pretty good things about them.

I just ordered a set as they are about 260/218 front rear.

I had two sets of glocs on my camaro and did not like them. So I'm not sure carbotech is an answer for me.

I have read elsewhere that they are "fine". Nothing earth-shatteringly good about them, but not horrible.


Frankly, I did not like Carbotechs either. More expensive than the Hawk DTCs with the same performance and wear, but also excruciatingly noisy. G-Loc is almost identical -- there's some story about a falling out within a family so one of the original Carbotech guys split off and created G-Loc.

Granted i was in a 3700lb camaro with slicks, probably needed better ducting but they got so so hot to the point they turned the calipers another color and turned my 1LE white color dark orange. Just definitely better options out there.

Back to my semi-OT post about looking for a second car.

Minor rant here, but what is with dealers around here loading up their cars with lots of BS add-ons? The Honda dealer across the highway from where I live has tints, wheel locks, splash guards, rubber mats, and PAINTED pin stripes on EVERY SINGLE ACCORD. And guess what, that adds over a grand to the price. The Mazda dealers were the same: "interior protection package" along with tints and other ridiculous "coatings" for $2k. The one Mazda dealer said you have to get the windows tinted! It's obvious margin padding and reeks of shady business.

I've probably wasted an extra half hour combing through the photos on various dealer websites to see who isn't doing it...and the choices are slim.



Anyway, here's where I stand...


Accord 2.0T was "fine". Tons of room and lots of equipment. Engine is strong and it drives nicely. Car has no personality -- doesn't do anything well, but no real faults. Was disappointed to learn that the two colors I like are NOT available on the Touring model.

Ruled out the Genesis G70. Back seat and trunk quite small, and I can't justify that much money for something without a lot of space. Plenty fast and nice chassis, but not going to fit my needs. Impressive car and I understand why people would buy it.

Struggling with the GTI value proposition. $36k for an Autobahn model seems steep considering the so-so interior. It didn't exactly live up to the hype and I was a bit let down with the rear seat room. Equipment level is certainly good.

Didn't even bother driving the C43, just too much money when you factor in the way Texas screws you on leasing with the sales tax.



While I was at the VW dealer, they had an Arteon on the showroom floor and I was surprised by it. Not only is it a real looker, but the interior is huge and it has a gigantic trunk thanks to the hatchback design. It's not terribly sporty, more of a GT, but I'm actually considering one now. $48k for a VW might sound weird, but this car legitimately feels like an Audi other than some minor hard plastics in the interior. With the 0% for 72 it's extremely tempting. Is it $14k nicer than an Accord? Yes and no.

F150 w/an ecoboost + enclosed trailer so you can easily take the vette & all them wheels to the track?

An F150 makes for a nice DD. Excellent ride for a truck, very spacious interior, and plenty of towing capacity. MPG isn't great - it's still a truck - but they have come a long way in the last few years.

The base model is missing tons of equipment, has a garbage stereo, etc. Anyway, the car starts at $28500 then you tack on the DSG, and then all of the fees for sales tax, destination, etc. and suddenly even the base model is like $32k.


My point was that the GTI, even with all of the equipment doesn't feel like a $36k car. The Arteon feels like it's worth the price they're asking. I dunno, the GTI just doesn't really do it for me.

Nope, I've heard this crumbling in two-days experience from people who drive much lighter weight 86's too. Just the nature of those pads I think.

What family, lol. I'm not married and have no kids.

I love driving the Corvette, but there are times when I need something different. Having the Corvette as my only car means I am always trying to find the middle ground between track use and normal street use. Towing that line is getting exhausting and sometimes means I spend money/time on stupid shit because I have no other choice. There's also an inherent risk in using the same car for both and having no backup.

I'm not saying the Corvette is going to become a trailer queen and will get stripped down for pure race use, to be clear.

i see. why not go super cheap? like a $5k early 90's toyota pickup? if you want the comfort stuff, take a look at a newer jeep grand cherokee. we picked one up for mrs beef's dd, but got the v8 and tow package for towing my junk. it had been a good truck so far, and pretty nice inside. the older ones haven't aged well. ours is a '17, not sure when the interior got updated. seats are kinda meh, but its an upscaled jeep.

i don't know if you bike or camp or whatever, but its pretty versatile and is a great all around vehicle.
