i have a friend with a golf R. he digs it. when i drove it, it was fun and all and would make a cool dd. it just didn't "do it" enough for me to want to spend $30k. fast enough to get into trouble, but it was really underwhelming. i did a launch in it at his request and it was just meh.

when i got my smart car, my goal was ultra cheap transportation. i don't need anything special for snow or longer distance. i can also live without cruise control, cameras, high quality radio, blue tooth and crap... it has power windows, locks, cupholder, and an armrest.

Can someone explain why the bimmerworld wheel studs have such a different torque requirement than say apex studs? 50-80ft.lbs to hub vs 25ft.lbs and 75ft.lbs for wheel vs 85ft.lbs?

I broke two in March on the same corner on the set that I installed in December, and another one on the same corner that was still the same brand yesterday while torquing the wheels down. I have a feeling the brand WhiteM3EMC talks about in his build thread is the same...

All I'm saying is I'm buying the BW ones now, and thinking about doing the Core4 Press-in's with new hubs soon too.

Mine were actually ECS Tuning. I bought em before I really knew there was a difference in quality

Don't do that. Loctite and bottom out the stud like the others.

But the instructions from bimmerworld said their studs needs to be torque down to between 50-80ft.lbs and the wheels torque to 75ft.lbs. This is much different than say apex studs (I currently have)

I tried getting those studs to 70 ft/lbs or whatever the directions said. Ain't no way unless you have a special tool.

Agreed. We had a freeway facing room and I couldn't sleep for shit. I rather just drive there and sleep better at home nowadays.

derbo Yikes - thanks - I'll see if I can get a room not facing the freeway. I'll be doing a 2-day event there and driving up Friday, so it's not practical to drive home 4 to 4.5 hours each way

Nothing. Studs are just more convenient - otherwise they don't have any 'advantage' over bolts.
