I was pleasantly surprised by it. Definitely got a little greasy near the end, but overall very predictable. Garbage in the wet unless it's brand new.

Thats awesome! Website says 50% weight reduction compared to stock glass, do we have any data on what the factory glass weighs?

Over the last month of "stay at home" i decided to get some work done on my track toy. Figured since I couldn't hit the track I might as well modify the car some while its stuck in the garage. Finished up the work this week and took it out for some photos.

Added the following:
- 3M Satin Battle Ship Gray Wrap (ceramic coated)
- Burkhart Engineering GT4 Wing
- Trackspec Motorsports Hood Vents
- APR Performance Carbon Fender Spats
- ApexRaceParts.com Forged EC7-R 18x10.5 front and rear
- Nitto Tire USA NT01 275/35-18 tires

Not sure. It's one of those parts on realoem where the weight is listed as a couple thousand pounds. lol

I'm not sure where I would even put it. Could be 2kg for rear side windows in an e92, but 21kg makes no sense...

Tire sizes and heat dissipation question.

One of the main benefit of larger tires, in addition to more mechanical grip, is its ability to dissipate heat (not overheating).

So the questions is which size dissipate heat better? 275/30/19 or 265/65/19?

Assume same tire. Very curios to hear technical explanation. Not interesting to rehash a conversation about 18".

Thank you in advance

The two main ways a tire loses heat is through the contact patch and air. A tire with a bigger contact patch (e.g. slick vs treaded street tire) will lose more heat to the ground.

If both tires were the same compound, tread pattern, and tread depth, a 10mm wider tire isn't going to lose drastically more heat. Most of the time, we can safely assume the tire with more mass is able to go further before overheating. However, when overheating occurs, the tire with more mass will take longer to cool off.

Remaking something like this has been on my to-do list for a while -

Just working on the door windows right now. They are framed lexan ones. Might replace the rear quarter windows with some form Hard Motorsports. Rear window will stay glass for now, maybe in the future but I'm getting to the point where I'm near my min weight so not much use to keep stripping out everything.

I will agree that a 10mm wider tire won't dissipate substantially more heat. But one thing to keep in mind is that he was comparing a 275/30/19 to a 265/35/19, the 265 has an overall diameter 0.8" larger than the 275. The larger diameter will certainly play a role in dissipating heat, it's hard to say which would dissipate heat more effectively. Assuming the same tire I would say they would be quite similar, the extra width of the 275 is offset somewhat, if not fully, by the larger diameter of the 265.

You also need to be looking at the weight of the tire.

For example, a 265/35R19 PSS weighs 26 pounds. A 275/35R19 PSS weighs 26 pounds as well. But a 285/30R19...also 26 pounds.

On my car, the OEM PSS ZP out back weighs 34 pounds. The R888R that I run now is the same width but different aspect ratio and diameter, and it weighs 32 pounds.

This is the site I always use, rather than realoem.
http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/51377119178

I haven't seen any wonky weights on it before. I always assumed the had the same data as realoem though.

For those of you with cars still equipped with functional EDC - do you switch to the comfort setting on bumpy parts of the track or leave it stiff all the way around?

I would never switch it mid-lap. I need to be focused on driving, not fiddling with electronics. FWIW, I have always run it on the stiffest setting on every track.

If I was on a track that had spots that rough I would likely just keep it on comfort the whole time. We have a track like that here and it did make a difference - not much but the headache after the session would be a bit less severe. But if you see a benefit from being able to run stiffer through parts and have suitable opportunities to switch back & forth and are comfortable doing so then why not. Personally I want to limit my interaction with anything outside of the steering wheel as much as possible, but to each his own. Unless its the radio & looking for a better song - that's perfectly acceptable in my book.

Another thing - when I'm harnessed in tight & have the Hans on I could not see the EDC control button & would not be able to tell what setting it was on while driving. If running 3pt though that is probably not an issue.

I leave it in comfort mode on the bumpy tracks. No good way to switch it back and forth since it sort of has a delay to it.
