Curious about this car. To my knowledge the (or a) previous owner had a new motor installed due to a prior failure and this one only had 45k-ish miles on it... Interesting to see the wear knowing that about the car.

There were very light markings on the crank, but surprisingly not as bad as compared to the bearing.

That is my thought as well. Seller has no need to offer a discount to sell product. If you personally wanted to order 100 sets, you could probably get a discount since they would all be sent in one package to the same place.

The connecting rod bearing is the last pressurized oil contact point before it is slung into the pan, so no! Main rods lead to con rods, not the other way around. Ever get a black stone report over the last two oil changes?

Mannn, I CAN'T WAIT to see how my newly acquired 172K...never been changed rod bearings look! After buying it, it's sitting until they're done. TBH, I'm thinking of having it towed to the shop just in case, lol. That'd be some luck, 172K same bearings, 12 mile drive to the shop, one of them goes, lol!
Btw, we've ordered WPC treated bearings + ARP. I wanted BE but the wait time from what we're seeing was July-September. Do those bearings generally have such a long wait time to be produced? Last edited by JPetro10; 04-26-2020 at 06:14 PM.. |

With the WPC treated stock, base the next bearing change on the condition of the bearings you take out. In your case that will likely be a while given the miles you have on yours.

Strong recommendation: Hit up Polaris Labs and get their Advanced Engine Plus analysis package. It's better and cheaper than Blackstone's testing. Or, if you really want to go deep (and feel like paying for it), go with Dyson Analysis. After you change your rod bearings, you can start doing oil analysis at every oil change (this is where Polaris's bulk orders come in handy). That'll greatly improve its utility. As an added bonus, it'll also be marginally less useless for tracking wear. |

I have never done an oil analysis on my 08M3 and don’t plan to. I did change the rod bearings in 2014 at 60k. No extra clearance bearings were available then so I used WPC treated stock. Since my original bearings had wear patches though not through to copper, but did show copper along the parting lines and a little down the sides from the parting lines, I plan to do them again at 120k or maybe before if I am looking for a project. If mine had shown pretty much no wear, I would have extended the interval and if they had shown copper in the centers I would have reduced the interval. Presently the plan is to use extra clearance bearings next time. Probably ACL since the price is reasonable and they are quality bearings.
