I'd love a new RE71R, although it's already very very good.

I'd like a new BFG R1/R1S even more though

The big appeal of the ST60 is it has a slightly narrower caliper body for better wheel clearance.
With fresh Motul RBF660 and PFC 08 pads, you can go pretty far but braking performance consistency is an issue. That’s why I’m upgrading.

With the sales going on now, the difference in price between the ST40 and ST60 (PM forum sponsors for pricing) isn’t large enough to be saving a significant amount going the ST40 route. Send me a PM if you want to know where I got the lowest price on ST60s.

Pad price differences for ST40 vs ST60 are pretty significant though.
Consumables are about 50% higher for the ST60 and you get minimal or no performance gain.

Your biggest long term cost is consumables, not the cost of the BBK.

IMO, pointless to get an ST60. Get an ST40.

Seems like I will end up with ST40s too. Now trophies...or not..

Very interesting take. Given ST40 are in mid 2K range, I'll probably just do the BBK upgrade instead of 2 piece rotor mid-step. Same question as derbo, Trophy or not trophy. On paper, seems the only differences are the rubber dust covers?

To clarify, ST60s are in the mid-2k range.

I'd just do the regular ST40. The trophies are a little lighter and I think they have upgraded hardware. Doesn't add an heat capacity.

One other mention is an ST40 allows for 17" wheels. I run Apex 17x10s with 275 NT01s. I save about $150 per set of tires and the performance is essentially the same. Hoosiers and other r-comps are about $25-$40 less per tire.

The ST40 has a standard 16.5mm thick pad but most are 18mm, same as the ST60. Your biggest advantage with the ST40 is it's the same pad that older Porsche's used (late 80's/early 90's 968 and some 911 turbo's). You can usually find pads somewhere in a pinch. Been there before.

I've run the ST40's on my previous e92 and they are great for shorter tracks. For tracks with "bigger" braking zones, such as the back straight at COTA, I'd prefer ST60's. That's what I have on my car now. Also, highly recommend Castrol SRF brake fluid.

I did have Trophy ST60's on a previous car and they were fantastic, anodized finish is really nice, tolerances are more precise than the painted kits, not sure performance difference is noticeable but I would buy them again if the budget allowed.

I've run RBF, SRF, and Endless.

Rbf was just garbage. SRF is great but sometimes pedal feel was squishy. Something about low compressibility about the fluid. Endless hasn't given me issues so far.

For my stoptechs I also added anti knockback springs 4lbs (6lbs might be better) since these do not come with them if you don't specify them to. As far as I know PFC and AP come with them preinstalled.

ST60's give you more performance than you need in most conditions but for the more extreme braking zones, you will occasionally use that excess performance. Many factors here, tire, brake pad, run group, track, etc.

I guess my vote for ST60's is more for advanced run group drivers who regularly run on tracks with bigger braking zones, meaning 140mph+ down to say ~60-80mph. If you are more novice and running street tires you likely will not need the added performance, ST40's should work well and you could always upgrade in a few years if you thought you needed it then.

Probably just stoking the fire on this debate and I personally get it, have gone ST60 to ST40 and now back to ST60 myself, hard to find the sweet spot. Pads are more expensive for ST60 something to consider also.

ST-60 vs ST-40

Here's a shot of a ST-60 vs. ST-40 pad. Also, the rotors on the ST-60 are larger for better ventilation and heat dissipation.

I've been running the ST-60 Trophies up front for at least five years, and I can't imagine the smaller ST-40 caliper and pad can be as effective. I love me some BigJae, and he loves him some 17s and ST-40s. The price of pads and tires is certainly a consideration. Maybe on a lighter car, but I'm looking at slowing 3800 lbs.

Oh, and someone make me an offer on these Cobalt Friction XR1s for the ST-40 kit - love 'em but too much torque for my rear.

General question about vendor. Does anyone know/buy from these guys before. Their pricing is pretty good. But hard to tell if they are any legit.

If you're looking for a new ST-40 setup... Bimmerworld is a much more legit vendor and has a coupon code active that makes the price nearly the same. Just my two-cents.
