I think it's better to look at longevity as part of your cost. In other words, what's cheaper? A tire that costs $1000 but only lasts one track day or a set of tires that runs $1500 but lasts two?

But all my tires last short of two days and more than one day. For what I want to experiment with in the first few 2020 track days a mediocre tire will do. If want to go fast it would be the Hoosier R7 or A7. For that, I already felt the difference. Nothing else came close to the 265/35/19 R7 on the front. |

I bought it a few years ago from ebay, it was a replica of a well known brand, I forgot which one and it looks like this:

I would really feel like I am wasting my money if I don't get performance I need from the tires I paid for...

Either track , LRP to the east, NYST to the west is 70 minutes from my house. I get up in the morning, after coffee at 6am, I am at the track before 8am, empty the car, 8:30 driver meeting, 9am-5pm I do 7x20min session and I am home for dinner. Meaning, a track day for me is not a major time commitment aside from the actual time on the track. I feel free to experiment with ideas, knowing that I will not make my best lap time that day. I suppose I disagree that you don't learn anything doing 1:40 at NYST on sub $1000 a tire set. I do agree that at 1:50 pace it does not translate into what happens at 1:35. But at 1:38-1:40 it is relevant enough. About alignment and suspension. My experience showed that the camber of 265/35 on expensive R7, from a wear point, is similar enough to a ECSTA PS91 265/35 or 275/30. So I think a reasonable approach given my objectives and circumstances is to adjust my settings using a less expensive tire before I use expensive tires. What I have proven, to myself, is that while slick 235/35 is faster than any of the high performance 265-275, the alignment is not the same. This creates a practical choice, do I align the car two different ways? or do I align the car to the 265-275 tires and alternate between expensive R7 and Inexpensive summer tire. And I came to the realization that I will keep the alignment the same, and use less expensive tires. Lastly, Looking for all the tires I outlined, calling a $900 tire set that gets consumed in two days cheap is a mischaracterization of value. It is a very very expensive hobby. While I am not by any away advise anyone to follow what I am doing, I will continue to report my lap times and equipment I use. The results are not as obvious to me as to some of you. Lastly, I would not label me as "different" or "strange" I am as an average person as it gets, alas perhaps with a tinge of curiosity and need to experience things myself to learn. :-) Comments are always welcomed. Where else can you get such a quick answer to a 275/35 on 10.5 question? only here. |

You have a car with a supercharger, aero, ceramic brakes, 4-way JRZ's (IIRC) yet run on some of the cheapest tires out there. At your driving level and with the performance of your car, most (and I mean 99.9% of the advanced driver population) would be on R-Comps or true slicks. As an aside, you should consider springing for a trip to Watkins Glen this year. Best track in North America and not really that far from you. |

I want to be clear, I am not disagreeing with you or @Deka. I have put a set of hoosier R7 on this setup and that can't be beat. I am not tryin to do 1:35 with less of tires. Having said that, It does not mean that EVERY TIME I go for a track day I MUST put on a set of expensive tires. In my book I MAY put on a less expensive tires for time to time to feel and explore For example, If I want experiment with 275/30/19 front and 275/35/19 rear. I will be doing it with the cheapest tires I can find in the max performance summer or ultra perf summer. Now if we are going into "why do you want to do that, most people don't" well, I don't have an answer for that. I just do want to. Yes Watkins Glenn is fabulous. Been there with Ducati and my (RIP) 1995 Euro M5. Fabulous but 4 hours away. not going to happen this year. Unless all you guys will be there and I will have to come and meet you guys. As far as what most people do.... let's not go there. :-) |

If u went with a 265 u could get AD08s or RE71s, both of which will be wider in a 265 then any of the tires u listed and only cost u an extra $300. That's a no brainer. |

The BBK used doesn't allow for any 18 inch wheel options. Essentially saving a decent bit of money on brakes at the expense of frequently replacing tires that don't last long because they're not a track appropriate compound.

I think we are better off trying to convince him to trade the BBK for a PFC or AP Radi-Cal kit that fits 18" wheels...
