Why not another craftsman set? Like you, mine have lasted 10+ years and the 10mm socket still fits 10mm heads (go figure).

Save your money for tires.

I didn't know about Tekton tools - Fantastic prices for sockets and bits. Going to put in an order for various torx bits, and the female versions for the bolts surrounding the diff.

That said, I think it's worth getting a couple premium ratchets with a high teeth count for those bolts with minimal clearance. Greatly speeds things up!

Made in America Craftsman was great. But that was before Sears move production over to China. Now that Black and Decker own them, the new sets are main in Taiwan. I bet the quality could be similar to Tekton which is also Taiwanese based. The crazy thing is the new craftsman kits are sold at Lowes and Ace now.

The Tekton Etorx kit has been working out very well for me.

Great point about new vs old craftsman. Forgot about that. My "edc" is my grandfathers ratchet. The gear head gene started with him and I still use his 3/8" ratchet. I have my dads too. Both are reliable.

looking at set prices, i might just have to build a new collection little by little. i've been eyeballing this husky chest and i'm hoping it goes on sale. if not, i'll have to hit up a military buddy for that 10% veteran discount. lol

thats incredible man. what shop do you work for? whats a typical race-ification like that cost? that level of clean and paint just works for me.

I'm the tech for trinity Autosport

I've done quite a few builds now, just trying new things each time
This one being the cleanest wiring yet, no chassis grounds showing down the sides, battery moved up, fuel pump relays hidden, no wires visible going to the rear

And my custom aim mount and block off from scrap carbon lol

As for cost , obviously not cheap
But with the amount of time it takes me to pay attention to littlest of details nobody cares about, it's a bargain in my eyes

Is there a bmw manual that is detailed enough to state which wire does what, or do you have to figure it out with a multimeter with trial and error?

You need WDS. It used to be available on web but I bought a CD on the inter webs that has it and TIS. I am not sure how far it goes body wise but it details every single wire. And a good label maker. And a pin removal tool helps.

When you get to race car levels it's easy because you really have very little chassis wiring.

I am trying to keep my cluster, DSC switch though I never use it, wipers, hazard signal, and option for rear trunk lock.

I have no AC, no radio, no locking, no airbags, no interior lights, no SMG since swapping to manual, no EWS, and few other things that I can't remember.

This will be my second pass. I kinda half assed it the first time and left a rats nest under the dash.

I'm jumping on the Black Friday band wagon and ordered a Essex 9668 front BBK for the e46 race car. It will actually be a 372mm x 34mm e92 M3 kit and we will convert it to the e46. It will require custom caliper carriers/brackets. I have a Tilton 900 series pedal box so the brake bias is adjustable. Hopefully this is a big improvement as the old kit never really did the job.
