How to identify tune.
Just purchased a 2011 and from what I searched oem Rev limiter is 8k rpm
Currently revving to 8400. Assuming it's already been tuned / flashed. Just trying to figure out what tune it is. Same as dct flash. Seen that oem there is a delay going into reverse. I have none so assuming it has been flashed. Any other way to identify?

redline is 8,300. 100 rpms is about a needle width. i think you might be over analyzing this.

i would talk to a potential tuner and see if they are willing to work with you to determine if you are tuned or not. you might not be able to tell which kind, but they should be able to tell if you have one or not.

This would be a very easy way to check, most tunes remove cold start.
Also, the 8300 vs 8400 thing...there's always a bit of parallax error on the tach so it's not exactly like you'll know the specific RPM you're hitting.

Factory rpm limit is 8400 rpm. The cluster came from the M5 and the painted limit of 8250 is not correct.

I'm in the same predicament. I just bought an 08 with dct and when I shift from N to D it puts me in D2 and it also saves my last manual shift setting. As far as I've seen, this is indicative of having a dct tune?

Max power was reported at 414HP at 8,300RPM but fuel cutoff is 8,400RPM from what I have read. Not all tunes eliminate cold start so that might not be a perfect test. When cold, where is the reduced red-line set to? Some tunes offer an ever further reduction from stock for additional cold temperature protection. Cheers,

Yes, that would point to you already having a dct tune.

Other than signs as mentioned above (cold start delete, raised limiter to 8600, top speed governor removal) there is no real way to check unless you reach out to tuners and give them your vin to see if they have any history of the previous owner buying a tune. Majority of tuners use a program called bitflash, bitflash does not update UIF which is where the dme software file and time of flash would be stored. So it doesn't really leave a trace unless there is a way to check with bitflash software. If you are worried, which I personally wouldn't be if your car is running fine, then a coder can flash your dme to a stock file which will over write any tune currently on the dme if there is one in about 15 minutes.
As for DCT flash, you will know if you have either the GTS or Euro software simply by starting the car and putting it into drive. If the car puts you to D2 instead of S1 then you have the GTS or Euro software. |

Take the last 7 of your vin and contact every tuner in the market and see if anyone recognizes it then ask them again in case they made a mistake

I like the idea of going for a top speed run. If the fun stops at 161 according to your phone gps, you probably have a stock tune. Most tunes remove the speed limiter.
Let us know what it does. |

Electronic speedo will show 170, if anyone has hit the limiter it's very clear you've reached it. Almost feels like you hit a wall lol it's not a violent push back but it's definitely noticeable

So rpm is not at 8600. But I don't have cold start. Does not seem out of the norm? Can you tell from idle? I hear driving while it is cold is when you notice how bad cold start is.

So your rpms automatically settle on cold starts? Dyno would be pretty pointless since you don't have a baseline. Dyno's have way too much variation, for example I made 340 whp fully catless gintani tuned on a dyno here in San Diego.

I think you can safely say it is tuned, at least a stage 1 with cold start delete, and that the dct is tuned.
What exhaust setup does it have? Factory cats? No cats? if you are catless, probably a stage 2 tune.

Quick update. Sent over 20 emails to tuners and finnally got a response. Car was tuned by Epic motorsports! Great customer service even though he knows I'm not the one who purchased!
