My point was that, at current price differentiation levels, a GT3 would cost 5-6 times more than an E92 for perhaps 1.5 times the performance. As such, pass... |

The e90/92 m3 is a very hard act to follow. Especially at today's prices! |

My co-worker recently bought a Challenger R/T Scat pack with the shaker package finished in F8 Green. It looks and sounds incredible and opened up my eyes to the world of mopar and they make some cool looking and sounding cars.
Not that I'd ever sell my M3 but Dodge is something I never considered that I would now.

I don't have a great answer for this either. I was seriously considering trying to secure an allocation for a new GT4 just last week, and put my E92 up for sale. Then I thought about it and it still doesn't make sense to dump the E92 compared to the cost of 115k for a decently optioned GT4.
Most modern cars are just a complete drag. I have considered selling my E92 and jumping into a well-done S52 swapped E30 or something. I used to have an S50 E30 trackrat and loved it. Would be nice to have one with a full interior that is streetable. Everyone talks about GT3 but it's utterly pointless for anything other than a dedicated track car. For my money I'd rather drop 110k on a used Audi R8 V10+ spyder with a 6 speed. The high RPMs of the GT3 are fine but it still doesn't sound anywhere as good as a V8 or V10.

At that price point you have to accept the Porsche or other $100k plus car is not 5 times better than your M3. Somewhere between 25 and 100% better depending on how you rate things. But it’s better and newer but most importantly you want it and that’s why you would pay 5 times the value of your car. I would also, if I could (can’t yet but will within the next few years).

Both have good resale, with the gt cars being superior. So I don’t think it needs to be 5 times better. But you do have to have the available cash flow to be able to afford one. Well aware of the warranty. I’ve driven it on track and street and it’s a phenomenal experience. |

This new C8 is gonna be VERY interesting. I expect they're gonna tap into customers that never would have bought the old Vette's, but at the price point/performance they're operating at, you're buying a near supercar at cheap $$. I've never really been a fan, but they have my attention.

I want a gt3 like the rest of us but where that line lies in terms of your financial goals, retirement and how much you want spend is a hard target. For me I have way more important things going on than upgrading this amazing car for something better because deep down inside I know this car is really good. Of course there are newer better faster cars out there but why upgrade? At what cost? Will I get sick of that machine in 2-3 years and be back at square 0? What's the ultimate goal of all this? I've been thinking about this all lately in this material world we live in. People are constantly bored and upgrading everything. If you upgrade most things all the time whats the point of getting all excited in the first place knowing you'll just move on for the latest and "greatest in a short while"? I get it though, the E90 M is approaching old status but I do know one thing it would have to be a gt3 or something like GT350 Mustang because I now love NA V8's. Im sold on that alone unless something completely blows me away, but then again, at what cost????? Last edited by neilum; 08-08-2019 at 07:37 PM.. |

Gotta think about what you think the car is lacking. Speed, luxury, tech, or handling? These are all easily upgradable at a fraction of the cost of moving to another platform. Supercharging or adding a few suspension parts will really transform it. They make some really good Idrive upgrades now and throwing in some custom recaros and alcantara will make it feel completely new. You can do all these options for cheaper than any of the options listed.

I have been throwing money at my turbo E36M3 for years trying to make it perform like the Porsche Turbo that I really wanted but could not afford. It is as fast in a straight line but that’s about it. It’s definitely not the Porsche Turbo I really wanted but I still like it a lot and actually have mire fun driving itbtgan my E90M3 and in most years drive them about the same amount.
You can modify the E90M3, but you won’t turn it into a GT3. Last edited by pbonsalb; 08-09-2019 at 01:01 PM.. |

Consider F82 M4?
It's similar concept (very good at multiple things) with a different take: I6 tt motor, more potent in city driving. Stiffer suspension/bushings gives a more connected feel. Does not have the slight GT feel of the e9x (good thing or bad?) Sounds good when driving aggressively, not so when cruising. Depends on your budget, type of roads you have access to & certain must have expectations from your next car that should help you narrow it down. As an enthusiast, I feel we should keep trying different cars for different experiences! That being said, I am on my 5th e9x based chassis since 2009. For me, next car ideally would be a Porsche of some kind but I don't feel like I'm done with BMW yet! Anyway, have fun deciding, first world problems |

Pretty much all version of the 991 GT3's including RS don't sound good without an exhaust mod. Fortunately it is very simple and one of the few inexpensive mods for these cars. Get a sharkwerks or similar center muffler and the sound will finally match the car. To the OP, having owned a GT4 and currently a 991.2 Manual GT3, I can tell you it is the next level of sports car ownership. Yes not 5 times the current value but you need to look at msrp for better comparison. Still it will be alot more expensive but I suggest you drive one first. The GT level cars for porsche are similar step up as M is for BMW. (Note GTS is not considered a GT car, like a M235 is not a M car). My suggestion would be a 16 GT4. They can be had in the low 80's. Perfect car to get into Porsche GT series. Yes does not have the GT3 engine but it is a perfectly balanced car that you can drive daily. Let me know if you have any questions as I really luv'd that car but getting a manual GT3 PTS made keeping it redundant, note I still have my M3!
