I also left the helper spring off. Try giving it 2 weeks, that's about when I got used to it and really noticed how much better it is. Regarding the pedal covers, yes, it is pretty much just cosmetic but certainly looks much better.

Where do you have the pin? I put mine in the middle hole.

Originally I had the pin In the furthest hole, then I tried it closest to the pedal, then I just took it off all together. The only traffic I come across is weekend traffic, so shouldn't be too aggressive. Mines an older m3 where it only has one helper spring, yours must be a newer one where it has two? I just drove it again, it does feel good especially with the new short shifter.. feels more racecar for sure..

Yeah, I removed the larger outer spring which was recommended in the instructions and left the smaller inner spring in place.

I also installed the F10 M5 knob which is shorter and a little heavier. Combined, I think it has greatly improved shifting and has significantly reduced notchyness.

I think it's 7 years or 70k, which mine is way out of..year wise.

what are you doing driving into DC metro in the first place?

i can only drive my M3 (since my wife can't drive manual, we can't swap cars)
i commute through LA traffic everyday but i've pretty much become a robot so i don't even really think about it
