The hood louvers extract a ton of air, I would imagine more air out = more air in, and fresh air at that versus hot air trapped from the box

My shop had a bunch of 1x1" steel bars laying around, we cut these up and used them as a spacer between the bracket and car. It's amazing what 1" can do. Drilled a hole through it and got a longer bolt. Switch out to a regular hex bolt versus the torx bolt to make it easier to access while you're at it.

1 track weekend in the books and no issues what so ever... except trying to get my fat ass in/out of the car lol

I feel dumb asking for this, but I was at Discount Tire getting a puncture fixed and thought it was a good chance to gauge inside brake pad wear up front. I could only get my phone in there to snap some photos.

I *think* these look fine. I've never had taper problems and the backsides of the discs feel fine, but I thought I'd get second opinions here.

They have about 6 track hours on them and I've been able to squeeze 8 out of this compound, albeit with the smaller and less sticky OEM rubber.

The pressure differential from the front intakes (some of the highest pressure zones on the whole car) to the hood (the hood vent is in that weird transition between the dead air at the ase of the windshield and the smoother flow over the hood) is positive. So the hood vent (stock) isn't pushing more air into the intake at speed.

M24 eliminates the hood vent entirely from their "street" carbon airbox, presumably for better ram air effect

You'd have to log MAP to be sure you've done anything but I'd think having it open with positive cold flow all the time is better than any times throttle is closed and flow would cut down significantly letting the IAT creep up while the hot airbox soaks it

The solution to this debate is obviously for him to cut the rad support, tilt the radiator and run one of those massive panel filter setups and collect data, for science

Ordered a set of OEM bwm roof bars + a random generic basket with some ratchet straps to haul 2 (of 4) wheels to/from the track. I know a few of you guys do this already, how is driving with all that weight on your roof?

Had no issues fitting all 4 inside the car until the roll bar was installed. Now 1 sits shotgun and 1 more in the trunk. 2 will need to go on the roof

think of it this way.....if you have a bong or a piece, when the diameter of the carb is larger than the diameter of the inlet (where you pull that nice sticky icky), you're not getting a massive flow of that nice THC enhanced cloud.

There's a reason the carb is a smaller hole.

Another consideration on removing the air box lid...it would essentially function like the racecars with the fat air tunnels coming out of the hood and produce a fair amount of downforce wouldn't it? Of course this could be a counterpoint due to lopsided downforce lol.

I would not be removing the lid from the airbox. You lose the pressurization effect. BMW designed it that way for a reason. In fact, how many cars do see come with open element air filters from the factory? Virtually none. They all use some sort of box, even if the top piece is just the hood itself.

I agree in general, but the trackspec hood vent situation introduces an interesting new variable for air flow paths and effects. Probably still not worth losing the ram air effect, but fun to think about. And really unless you dyno and/or do real world flow testing, it's hard to make a real hypothesis imo

yea, the open oem airbox with the hoodvent combo is an interesting one. i want to keep the closed box, but i can also see a potential benefit with the vents and open lid... just theories at this point, but makes sense.
the trackspec vents on the driver's side are mostly over the airbox and the box doesn't really allow for huge airflow like the passenger side.

i've been fantasizing about running the karbonius plenum with the geoff steel intake... i have no idea if the two would fit together, but that would free up the entire side where the airbox is for some functional stuff like legit venting and maybe adding an additional oil cooler.

nitrogen guys- i'm curious about something. do you use the same tank to fill your tires and pressurize your coilovers? how big is the tank, and how long does it last?

i sort of want to get rid of my horizontal air compressor in the garage. all i use it for is tires, but i'm trying to think ahead. thing is huge and takes up a ton of room. does a 22 cu.ft. bottle last a really long time for keeping coilovers topped off?
