Favorite saying on the E46 boards is that every car will cost your $25K+.
Either get a clean car for $25k+ or buy something for $10-15K and drop another $10-15k into it. These cars (46 and 9x) are expensive to clean up and sort out. If you want a beater with worn bushings and cracking rubber and whatever, go for it. But nice examples bottom out around $20K, and even then you probably need rotors, tires, alignment, fluids and filters, plugs, belts ... $5K, bam! Ends up being cheaper or less downside just starting off with a clean car. |

I just picked up a 2012 E92 6MT with 46,000 miles two weeks ago for $32,000. For me, the decision was easy because the only options on the car were black leather and interLagos blue. I probably overpaid a little bit but it was the color and options that I wanted and it was properly maintained and in great condition with a clean history. I agree with all those who say you get what you pay for.
I will say that after shopping for three months the prices on DCT cars was significantly lower than 6MT cars. |

I think from the variety of responses in this thread ranging greatly in pricing and spec you can see the answer. These cars are worth as much as someone is willing to pay. If you want a Brilliant White 1:1 then you might have to drop 50K. If you just want any M3 and you don't care about history, color, trans...etc you can grab one up for mid-high teens. I suggest you figure out what you are looking for in a car and then see what is out there in that configuration. Everyone wants different things and will be willing to pay different amounts.
For example, I flew to Texas for my car from Michigan and many others here have similar stories. On the other hand, I am sure plenty of people on here also went the next town over to grab one. Good luck with the search! Post pics when you find/buy your match. |

Well, I was targeting a MY 2009+ as close to 50k miles as possible.... only looking for a MT6 and obviously in clean condition.
I really can't recall many e90/MT6s under 25k in my search... even some with 80-100k+ miles. Once you widen your search to include DCT, e92s, and higher mileage... you certainly had a lot more options closer to 20k.... which is why I qualified my statement with "depends on what you are looking for". |

I paid $32k for my 2011 Interlagos Blue Comp Car with 51k miles about 1.5 years ago. The car is in pristine condition and I have maintained that with the car now having 54k miles.
If I were to sell today, I would list at $32k because I think the ownership proves itself worthy in terms of maint. and condition. I am also realistic in understanding that it would require the right buyer for the car versus someone just focused on price. I did not buy my car for resale but instead for a long term hold. If you are in this market for resale there are opportunities but you can get burned with potential high maint. costs on a car that is priced aggressively for those same reasons.

I bought my '13 Gintani supercharged e92 last July and even having a budget at the upper end of what most e92's sell for, it was extremely hard to find an accident-free car that was well maintained with service records and tasteful mods. The previous owner spared no expense and it shows, he paid over $20k the year before doing Gintani SC/rod bearings/other maintenance. He was the original owner and did all service work at the dealer or Gintani and kept all of the paperwork.
I was not interested in buying from a dealer, almost every one I found that I was remotely interested in had no records, accident history, cheap mods, etc. You get what you pay for IMO. |

I wouldn’t take less than $1,000,000 for mine and it’s got 115000 miles on it and barely any options and a scratched up front bumper cover
I think the bottom is limited by the value of a known running S65 without holes in the block. Last edited by Richbot; 03-20-2019 at 06:58 PM.. |

I think prices have stabilized for the most part. For a mint late model example, you're going to have to pay around $30-35k. I don't see that price going up anytime soon but I don't see it going down either. ~$25k will get you a clean car but maybe higher miles. ~$20k you're going to see 08's with 100k+ miles. Any lower and I wouldn't even consider buying them.
I would rather pay more up front to get a nicer example. Probably end up costing you less in the long run.

Forget the bottom - how about the top? What's the most $$ you've seen a E9x fetch so far in 2019?
Last year I'm pretty sure a super low mileage 6MT AW DCT stripper went off at $55k+. How about this year? We've all seen the beauty LSB DCT asking $80k plus out in CA. Any sold data? |

I'd be reluctant to buy anything for less than mid-20s. I didn't want to spend over 25, I waited almost six months to find something worth buying in my price range. Ended up buying a 2-owner, fresh off CPO warranty for a little more than I wanted to pay.
I'd been eyeing e92 M3s for about a year and a half, still following. Prices seem to be holding steady. I'm sure if the economy turns and gas prices skyrocket that may change, but people buying in at mid-20s for a nicely equipped or cool color E9x M3 should be in pretty good shape. Don't expect these cars to be an investment, but expect to enjoy the car with minimal to no depreciation, IMO.
