Still 800 M4's for sale on Cars.com!
Are these cars really that sucky? Much of the online reviews compliment and praise the M4 but as we all know for (many reasons) it's no E92. I understand the differences between the E92 and the F80 so maybe this question is just redundant. But I am just shocked at how these M4's have literally flooded the used car market! And hell, you can pick one up for the same price as a used E92 which is very telling.

I'm really not being bias because I have a previous gen M, but I just don't think the f80/f82 will produce a niche cult the way the previous generations did. Nothing about the car especially the motor is special in anyway...

There's a ton of them out there and leases are up so prices are going down.. I had a buddy with an m4 and the lease was up and they only wanted $42k to buy out his 16k mile car but he didn't want it.. he returned it and picked up a 550i m sport instead.

And they are still coming off lease. I think the F80 is a great car. I love turbos. F80 will beat the E90 in a straight line and around a track. You can go slower and say you love the sound or the predictable slow boring power curve. It’s personal preference. I’d trade my E90 for an F80, but I won’t because I’d like AWD with the big power I would get from modding the F80 and I’d rather just keep the E90, which is decent, until I can buy a 991 series 911 Turbo.

Bmw has no cap on production, e9x gen m3’s we’re harder to get. When the e90 went out of production there were still a lot of orders that’s why you had 2011.5 and 2011.75 cars.
You can still buy 2016 M4 Gts’ brand new, nobody wants these things. Our cars are holding value pretty well especially for the ones in nice condition. |

I would love an f80 too.. I'm too deep into my e92 at this point to justify selling it, it's with me for the long haul and I'm gonna start saving for a used possibly salvaged gt3 lol.. just the sales tax/fees on an f80 will pay for a used supercharger on an e9x so I went that route instead. We'll see if it fills the power void between the two, probably not but I think ultimately it'll still save me $ and I'll enjoy it just as much..

OP asked about 2 door cars - you changed the convo to 4 door cars.
I wonder if the larger overall size of the F82M4 compared to prior generations of 2 door M3s limits M4 sales. Imo the F80M is a great M5 and the M4 is a better looking M6 version. The new F90M5 is a mutant cross between a rocket ship, a race car and a luxury barge. |

I was recently considering trading in my M3 E92 for a 335is with N54 and was able to test drive a IS model, but I was let down with the 335is performance
The car is nice and all, but the N54 engine puts the power way too smoothly and refined than what I thought it was; an aggressive torque happy car. Also upon revving the car I was surprised that it sounded decent, however it really is nothing compared to the S65, but noticed how much it reminded me of the S55 in the F80 that doesn't really have character. That's the main thing that these turbo-inline-sixes were bereft of; a soul. |

With a bit of $ you can give them a soul.. it's no Prius.. turbo'd cars are definitely fun to mod.
Plus I think the whole "soul" thing ages you, it's like the guys who still prefer vinyl records, yeah I like the roar of the v8 and feel of the steering but times are changing. What's wrong with a quieter faster car with lighter steering? At the end of the day the thing I care most about is getting left at the line.. and I mean that as a figure of speech, I want my car to stay competitive performance wise with modern day cars..

Yup, they're depreciating like crazy. There is nothing special about the F8X cars to make them retain or hold any value whatsoever from a resale perspective. And, they're dime a dozen being an even more mass produced car than the predecessor.
I can't wait to grab a F80 M3 as a DD in a year or two. They make for great everyday sporty cars. The F10 M5 is even more of a performance and practicality bargain right now, which is absurd!

I have started to notice several dealerships keep pumping out their 2019 Comp Pack F8X as a last resort effort to avoid "holding a heavy bag". But hey now, let's not start a hate rant on the F8X as I see were all biased towards E9X
I wouldn't mind settling for an F80 when the price starts to drop off later this year when the G80 M3 is announced Also, the thing about the F10 M5 is that it's the most leased out of all cars and the F10 5-series is the model that suffers the biggest depreciation out of ANY car |

Not only do they offer us a timeless look but also an amazing driver experience ever single time. Something that lacks big time with the f8x. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would agree with me. |

Looks are subjective, I agree the three series bmw of that generation was the best looking, but the rest of them are not standing the test of time.

I personally think they'll end up appreciating in value over time when it ends production. Seems to be a trend for these M3/M4s to depreciate and then start to appreciate in value overtime well over when production ended

looking at a bigger scope, the whole car industry is becoming more like a 2yr cellphone plan.
new cars live shorter lifecycle, and instead of each model being "special", it's more of mix & match of available engine + chassis not only within a company, but across different companies And the customers are willing to take it, more and more people are leasing their cars, "most" ppl keep their cars 3~5yrs max Quote:
the whole point of F80 was "bigger torque, turbo" -so BMW ditched NA high rev complicated yet so unique to BMW M engine --> we've got the turbo -But you remember that since 1978, BMW's M motor recipe was a high rev NA, factory Individual throttle body heart in the center, right? --> who cares, we've got the tuned 335i turbo -so they just take a N54 and put 2 different turbos (Mitsubishi's by the way) and call it an M motor.. --> yea we've got turbo -electronic steering...jeez.. --> yea we've got turbo -sounds like shit by the way --> yea we've got that turbo Now, G80 will carry TURBO, more power + torque, more advanced techs, possibly lighter, hoping it sounds better, AWD option...so what's so special about F80 M3? or better yet, why would you keep an F80? is it faster or as fast as G80? handle/feel better? sounds amazing? any unique features? No to all... after all, F80 was simply a bridge between a remarkable BMW M's pinnacle NA motor and now an updated, revised turbo M car that carries AWD. And ppl will remember it as "oh that tuned 335i motor with lawnmotor exhaust"

The thing the F80 has is if there was a street fight or a bar room brawl and it was just one F80M3 vs all four previous generation M3s at the same time .... the F80 would be the only one standing in the end - the car is a strong, reliable brute that can be abused on a daily basis and be ready to rumble the next morning.
Just don't puncture the oil cooler - that's like kryptonite and Superman |
