New PSS shoes in the front and picked up a 2002 330ci with manual trans as a temporary commute car. Not sure how I feel about the rag top though...

You let it warmup just sitting, or drove it around for a substantial amount of time to warm it up?

Drove 20 miles to work from mountain foothills to hills of Seattle starting in 6-8" snow, ending at 3". Only one slightly scary moment but realized pretty quickly this was not my brightest plan. Probably should have taken the Audi but you know, wanted to try it out, challenge myself and the car. lol Fat Michelin PA4s worked decently but conditions were awful.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have DCT, isn't it best to use D1 in the snow/ice?

Not really. Last blizzard I was in I used S5 and S3 to either get out of being stuck or prevent from getting stuck. But you kinda gotta be comfy when/if the car slides a lil

Yeah I drove in S3-4 to control engine braking and throttle in comfort with TC on. Sadly no hooning when you have to get to work at the hospital by 7am. Roads were a mess too so it was a very cautious drive. We have terrible snow clearing here since we don't get crippling snow that often. Hills everywhere makes it even more of an event.

They doused our city roads with salt. They're completely white right now.

That wouldn't be my choice of vehicle to drive 20 miles in the snow, but at least you were headed to the appropriate destination.

I think I was trying to prove something but after a couple of corners I was like well this was dumb.

I made it though!

Agreed.

In D1 the car will start off in second gear so you don't spin the wheels easily. You can achieve the exact same thing by modulating the throttle with your right foot. If you have a lead foot then D1/D2 is probably better so you don't break traction off the line. If you can/know how to feather the throttle then S mode all the way. It all depends whether you're used to driving manual or automatic.

Personally I only drive the M3 in S mode. I prefer to control the gear and shifts myself. I've driven my M3 in the snow on summer tires before, felt safer and more in control in S4 or S5 where I can put the car in the right gear when I wanted/needed.

Gave the engine bay some loving on this rainy day.

Hit it with some CG Orange Degreaser followed by some Meguiars Hyper Dressing.

Same method on the F80

And next up is the M5, it definitely needs some TLC...

Found tiny metal flakes in my friends oil filter housing. His housing also looks like it was scraped on the inside with something too
