Dinan short shifter kit not for E9X M3?
Hi all,
Ive been looking at a short shifter kit for my E90M3 and found that the Dinan did particularly well however i cant find any solid specifications on it being also applicable for the M3. On their site it does say it can be used for the E90 but i want to be sure. I also emailed them but no response and its been a month. Can someone please confirm? Much appreciated! |

I have it in my car. The short shift lever for the 335 is a drop in replacement for ours. It's great! I bought mine on Amazon.

How are the throws now? Maybe someone who has it could post some pics or a quick video similar to the one made with autosolutions ssk? I'd definitely appreciate it ![]()

I had an e92 325i before and the stock shifter in terms of play, throws and precision was a completely different story than what is found in a stock M3.

Why do you say so? The member above commented that he has done it and it works. There is also this thread:
Dinan 335i SSK used in M3 https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1506627 This part fits and works with the M3, there's just not much feedback on it and not enough info on throw reduction is all I'm saying.

I'd recommend auto solutions. I had one installed at the beginning of November and it's amazing. http://www.autosolutions.net - the website is antiquated and you won't see any about the e9x but the owner, Ronald, is making them in batches still for e46, e9x, and f8x. His craftsmanship is top notch, makes a complete kit including shift arm bushings, and what's best is you can get in touch directly with him to decide what % reduction you want.

The Dinan is very easy to install, much easier than the Autosolutions. It’s also about $250 cheaper. I’m sure the Autosolutions is better but this Dinan lever is better than the stock lever in every way. I have it paired with the ZHP knob and it’s awesome. I was able to install without removing anything but the shifter trim etc. I bent the heat shield and reached up to get to the clip. It was a simple process. The only drawback, which I don’t actually consider a drawback, is it makes a little more noise when it slides into gear. I didn’t notice it rotating the gear knob that much. It’s very precise, like a rifle bolt. I highly recommend it.

The sound you describe is present with any proper shifter with a solid steel ball and I think it's normal. I have delrin carrier bushings and turner poly arm bushing so I can already hear some stuff from the gearbox and I think it's cool ![]() Would you mind sending a photo of the knob from above? I also have the M5 knob and I would hate if it was rotated even a bit because of the shifter...

View post on imgur.comMy iphone camera focus is jacked up so I’m sorry for the crappy quality. It’s rotated just a hair towards the driver. All in all, I’m happy with the lever. Last edited by blowbackpolicy; 01-06-2019 at 07:06 PM.. |

Thanks for the photo
For me it seems rather bad, this is probably over 10 degrees rotation judging by what can be estimated with this photo. My brother has the $10 aliexpess shifter in his e46 which makes the knob look the same and it was rather annoying for me. Shame on dinan for making such an underdeveloped product. I'll wait for more feedback on turner shifter and maybe go this way. There is one so far and it's very positive.

To be honest with you guys, it isn't really noticeable in the car. The picture from directly above may not be the most flattering angle. I'm happy with my purchase. It's your car though so if it bugs you, it bugs you. My illumination retrofit to the ZHP knob isn't 100% perfect either though so I may not be much of a perfectionist. When I bought the Dinan lever, the Turner adjustable was not out yet. I probably would have spent the additional $60 and went with the Turner. I have yet to see a bad Turner product. Let me know if you would like any more pics. I'm happy to be of service to the community.
