His S65 is still under inspection . From what I can see ...Several pieces of metal blew through his block (possible from a rod)
His S65 blew 2 weeks ago. Here is more => http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1481065

Note: *He lost already 2 engines*
Think he goes for number 3 .

I wouldnt be so quick to blame bmw for this last one ... That "chip tune" of his may have something to do with it. And I'm not one to defend bmw's cubicle engineers for their robust engine designs. By the way, it seems like N63 engines are starting to eat themselves as well, due to similar rod bearing issues.

Hi, just bought a 2009 m3 with 50k miles. All the stories about rod bearings didn't scare me away from buying but now that I bought the car I'm really paranoid. I had a ppi done one the car at a bmw dealership but I still have my doubts about the car sounding normal. Heres a clip I uploaded. let me know what you guys think. Am I paranoid or do you hear abnormal ticking in the video? I am definitely getting the rod bearings done just incase as preventive maintenance hopefully within a week or 2.

I don't hear any knocking noise.

Other experienced members would know better.

These cars make lots of strange mechanical sounds. Injectors, timing chains, transmission, etc...

I have heard rod knock on other engines - it is really not something you can mistake.

Cheers,

That's not rod bearings. Rod knock would be quite noticeable. This is more like lifter noise or need to take the car for a long drive to burn off the carbon if you've been city driving for a while.

I dont hear knocking either, however i hear ticking or what sounds like ticking to me, may just be the regular "sewing machine" sound that it is suppose to make. I also hear it when accerlerating around 3-4k after that it seems fine, but again it may be regular operational noise, i just dont know what it is suppose to sound like. Ive tried listening to many youtubes, however i cannot find any that are recording engine sounds during acceleration near a wall with the windows or top down, lol.

Theres a shop I trust that can do the rod bearings in a couple of weeks. This makes me feel a bit better about driving it until then.

Don't worry too much.

Enjoy the car. If it has to go it will go and you taking tension won't be able to help it.

Good that you are getting them changed - in the meantime, don't miss on the 8200 goodness.

No point in having one of these cars if you don’t ever go past 6k. That is about where the fun starts.

Our/Your engine makes the typical sewing machine noise which is normal for the S65.

Note: I would NOT replace your bearings . Because your S65 sounds actually good !
Enjoy your car

Exactly the same car I stepped out of to get into my M3 brother. Older car in these times but it is not a bad ride.

It moves insanely fast from 6k to 8.4 (8.6k if tuned). With our power band being so consistent throughout why do people say that the fun starts up top? Sure we have crap torque, but once you're moving then it's all good.

Even if you want to there's hardly any legitimate time you can spend within that range on normal roads in a safe manner. Plus everyone around you will be looking at you as if you're a nut job for just revving high and wasting gas.

e90 m3 65k on the ODO.. i have had this ticking for 10k miles now..

anyone care to chime in on what this could possibly be? ive taken it to BMW multiple times and they even had an engineer take a listen.. they said the motor sounds healthy. Mainly took it there a few times to build a case in the case that something does happen. I even reached out to BMWNA to file a complaint about the noise.
