Karbonius Airbox for the S65

The guys from Karbonius here in Germany developed a complete (not only the cover!) carbon fiber airbox for the S65 engine.
As many as you know, their airbox for the E46 M3 is qualitatively equivalent to the CSL airbox Some guys compared it and found no differences in quality.

I'd like to see a vendor mold the oem intake manifold and make that in CF.

there is a lot of black magic and secrets associated with the size of intake plenums. sometimes larger volume plenums yield more horsepower. measurable power... there are a lot of questions associated with this, and the answer is mostly; "it depends."

so there might be a benefit to making a larger plenum. motorsport 24 claims their race plenum/filter makes about 50hp with software optimization... what does that entail? i don't know, there is a bit of a disconnect since they are doing business across the world and market their product a different way.

that said, a carbon, oem sized box, would cost a couple grand and wouldn't yield any perceivable power, so i doubt you would see anything more than a cosmetic cover.

Gotcha, I thought of CF plenums being primarily a cosmetic mod and hadn't thought of possible performance benefits. Looking at the motorsport 24 plenum, it is more interesting in that it draws air from directly in front of it and seems like it would create a ram air effect.

Karbonius and the Goeske a few threads up seem mostly cosmetic.

Karbonius is a Spanish (Spain) company, not German. You could think they're German based on their quality though

I'll be receiving their first completed airbox soon, then will organize a Group Buy. I personally do not expect gains but just the sound alone will be totally worth it.

It's a full carbon plenum with carbon trumpets and a carbon intake elbow, plus a carbon cover for the air filter area.

Looks spectacular!!

I really wish they didn't use the Bmw roundel and kept the ///M V8 badge. I know that's just about looks but it bothers me.

those are amazing, the race one looks like the scoop to the filter completely blocks the oil cooler.

mucho dinero

Agreed. I dig the carbon ones that just say "BMW M Power" in Helvetica decals. For example:

I am pretty sure that one only works with their "race" radiator, which they claim obviates the need for an oil cooler.

So, anybody using the Motorsport24 Clubsport setup? Seems like they claim some gains, drop-in-replacement
(as opposed to their race version, which requires some heat exchanger relocation). At 4450 euro it's not cheap. I think italyix might have one?

I like the idea of retaining the hood vent and stock airbox multiple-air-sources for a street car. The M24 one blocks it off, and also stops using the nostrils, I assume because they're superfluous for flow based on their testing, makes sense to me the lower left intake is huge and high pressure, but I worry about hydrolocking the engine with nowhere for the water to go but in

Meaningful gains that wont break the bank! Looks like the Karbonious will be a great unit but I don't see it making power.
