Turner Motorsports Skid Plate Installed
Just installed the Turner Motorsport skid plate as my original skid plate was trashed. My car is lowered so I figured it was worth the extra money to get a metal replacement that didn't hang as low.Overall it's a solid product and fairly easy to install. Here are the before and after pics.

The kit comes with all new bolts although I wish the ones that go into the wheel housing cover were black so they don't show as much. The fit was perfect. I put all the bolts on loose in case I needed to adjust anything but everything lined up perfectly. My only criticism is that it didn't come with instructions. I found some online but for some reason it differed slightly (it referenced two bulb seals on the OEM skid plate vs one, the bolt sizes referenced were slightly different). The trickiest part was mounting frame nuts through chassis holes on both sides of the car in order to mount the brackets from which the center skid plate hangs. You need to secure some safety wire to them in order to thread them into the chassis and hold them in place while you screw them on. I recommend getting wire that's thin enough that you can pull back through the nut once mounted but strong enough to hold it in place while you install the screw.

How much more clearance does it give you compared to the oem one? Like an inch?

I'd say about 2 inches. There's a steep driveway that I have to navigate on a regular basis and I used to scrape even creeping along very slowly. No problems now.

I like the fitment of this one and how it almost looks OEM. I have the deansbimmer one and it's completely flat. It works well and it give even more clearance than this. I had to modify mine only because it didn't like that I had a hose that was laying/rubbing on the plate. It seems that I'm the only one that has that issue or I'm just OCD AF. I may end up selling the deansbimmer one in favor of this. Thanks for posting pics.

It will require another step removing the larger bolt, but it beats trying to fish the frame nut to try again... |

I installed mine over the winter and love it. Super clean looking and the fit/finish are top notch. Highly recommended piece for anyone that needs to replace the felt pieces.

I must give my compliments to both deansbimmer and Turner for offering these solutions. To those in this thread with the new covers installed I have a question--have you noticed any change in wind-noise? The factory pieces extend downward immediately (nearly) in-front of the front wheels, likely helping to direct air-flow out and away from the front-facing side of the tires.

With my Harrop SC's front mounted radiator I couldn't chassis mount the Turner Skid plate and so I reused the OEM's dangling wire design to hold it in place.
I would agree that I wish they would use a different color for all the screws so that it doesn't look that Industrial.

Oh ya, for sure. All is good, it's an awesome product and I'm in no way bashing it. Like you said, it could surely be bent or adjusted. Since the tray was off the car, it was easy for me to make cuts and adjustments to it for my own use. Plus it was a great excuse to get the grinder out!

Interesting that Slambo and Co fabricated this like 8 months ago and now there are like 4 knockoffs.
Albeit this one looks like it has better fitment for cars with coilovers. I had to bend Slambos a bit to get it to account for suspension drop. |
