Does anyone on here have the tune called Fast Attack Motorsports Tune? Its quite well known on the m5 board forums, but I haven't seen one post of this tune on here.
I heard the tune makes really good gains and the owner/tuner specifically focusses on tuning only the s85 and s65 engines. Right now its a real toss up for me between going with Epic Motorsports, this tune or Alpine tune. Although something tells me I just might end up going with Alex's Alpine tune since its by far the most affordable. But I've also heard EPIC makes high power out put gains. |

In terms of reputability, Epic is clearly the way to go. He is an actual tuner. Most of the cars racing in BMWCCA club racing use this.
Some of the other things you mention are not even tuners. As in, they don't even pretend to do any RnD. It blows my mind that so many people in this forum use tunes by people who are not tuners. Can't go further into the topic as I don't want to be hit by the banstick. I highly recommend people read up on tuners before getting their 25k engine's software rewritten. And by read up I don't mean read on the sponsored forum where a tuner can have things deleted and people banned. There are many non tuners in the BMW tuning scene. However, if you look for people with an actual reputation, who have been around for more than 10 minutes you're left with ESS, Epic, Evolve and that's pretty much it. To see what happens in this forum is depressing. The other day someone opens a thread about how their rktune got 17whp more than their ESS tune... I'm sorry, but are all of us on planet Earth? Because over here in planet Earth, you don't even gain 17whp from going stock to tuned. There is no way in hell you are getting 17whp from switching from one tune to the other regardless of who made tune A and who made tune B |

You might get a temporary bump beyond the 5-10 rwhp that comes from leaning out BMWs rich mixture by clearing adaptions that have been retarding timing from the stock 32 degrees, but it won’t last unless you begin using a higher octane, move to a colder region, replace old plugs with new or replace weak coils with new, and if the increase does last it is for the other changes and not the tune.

This is not unique to the BMW community. Shit like this was a problem 10 years ago in the Honda world. The butt dyno and confirmation bias are what keep these jokers in business.

Jim, the owner of fast attack motorsports or FAMS, is actually a REAL engine tuner and builder.. He actually builds and specializes in the S65 and S85 motors..
I can confidently say, there is absolutely no shop in north america that knows these motors in and out better then Jim.. He builds them on a daily. Its actually a real pleasure that he has started to sell his tunes to the public.

+1. Don't let the anti-tune crowd or shills for one company make you think this guy doesn't know his stuff. |

I am a big fan of jcolley’s contributions here, and would certainly use his shop if I needed help since it is reasonably local, but I also think there are other shops across the country that know these motors just as well. |
