My e90 from hawaii to WA state has been giving me shit for the past week. I hate winters. I guess it is really messing with my electronics. Codes have been giving 2793, power management battery, battery voltage too low.

I choose not to because I have an E90 328i with AWD and I already owned winter tires for it. So I park mine for the winter.

IF I did not have another relatively fun winter car, I likely would drive the M3.

And winter sucks regardless...

Maybe the battery or alternator is bad. These cars do funny things when voltage is not right. I doubt Hawaii cars are built to some other spec. How cold is it in your area of WA? I have no issues in NH and have driven in as low as -17F.

I haven't had trouble with that, your battery probably is aging or too low.
It's been 0 Fahrenheit for a few days here in Toronto already, and the car starts up fine. Sure its a bit sluggish when cold but it warms up and drives fine after when you start moving for a bit after 5 mins.

I changed my battery sunday, full charge, was fine up to 2 days later 30 miles after installing battery.
I still think it doesn't like the cold, went back home, I checked voltage 11.9-12 running.
It was 14.9-15 running on sunday's install (it has been coded). I charged it again overnight, we'll see what happens after tonight's drive.

That sound really extreme. Here where I live it got down to 7 degrees and i had to carpool with my wife to work. I feel really bad for starting 10W-60 oil in those temperatures even though they are relatively rare for my area and I drive M3 every day otherwise. Obviously bearing threads got me a little bit worried but hopefully that will be sorted out soon

11.9-12.0 is not sufficient. You could have an alternator issue, a wiring issue like the IBS cable, a problem with your testing equipment, or even a problem with the new battery though a new battery would not be my first suspect. I don’t think cold weather prevents charging. Given that you had issues with the new and old batteries, I’d say something is wrong.

Yes as pbonsalb says that doesn't seem right. If you have Carly or another tool an easy first thing could be to check alternator current generated, or not. Should the new battery be broken which seems a long shot you may have a massive current loading the voltage down, but I'd rather suspect no current due to alternator fail or again control/IBS issue.

Worth to note that the voltage drops down towards 12v even with a fairly full battery as long as the engine/alternator isn't running. Plenty electronics onboard that want to be fed soon as you open the door...
