2012 cic iDrive My Apps question

I thought the 2011+ E92 were supposed to have the "My Apps" option in the ConnectedDrive option. My car doesn't have that option and i tried updating to the latest software from https://legacy.bmw.com/bmw_next/mast...re_update.html

Any suggestions as I would like to use the BMW laptimer app with my car.

Thanks!

Sorry all e9x cars had 2g networks and no longer connect to BMW apps. There are some exceptions, but given yours doesn’t connect it’s likely not updated. My suggestion is to look into AVIN for the e9x, IMO it’s one of the best updates for the price. https://avinusa.com/8-8-bmw-3-series...on-system.html

Looks like a nice solution. Dollars adds up fast for options; it seems like one would need all of the options!!!!

But it looks like what I want and almost purchased one myself.

The Avin unit definitely not an OEM solution - a couple people I know have it, and while it works, it definitely has a ton of quirks and doesn't have a complete OEM feel.

We can retrofit apps/connected drive to the stock system for full integration of Pandora/Spotify/M-Laptimer: http://www.bpmsport.com/products/ret...-retrofit.html

Would upgrading from CCC to CIC and also car play be an economically feasible option?

Haven't posted about it but we will be offering a 2018 system retrofit. It's not cheap but it's amazing. I've got about 10 kits in stock now but probably won't offer until next year due to time constraints. Some teaser pics..

To answer the question about CCC to CIC, only the 2017MY cars and up have support for CarPlay if enabled. So it will never be natively on a CIC or even an NBT.

Once I have more time I'll introduce the retrofit and what it entails.

Not the same retrofit - but the one you got is significantly improved over your current system. This retrofit requires rewiring, additional hardware, custom fitting, and is much more involved - the Cic retrofit is plug and play

I am not sure what everyone else is talking about.

I have a e93 2011.75 with option 6NR (I believe)
That should turn on the BMW apps.

My car connects just fine to laptimer and such even with the "old" 2G combox.

There is no cell network needed for the BMW apps.

Maybe I miss understanding something here.

I believe the poster just needs the 6NR coded in?

What I can't do is to use the new BMW app for my car since this needs a cell phone connection to get paired to the car, or does someone know if it is possible to code it in?

The old app works fine.

Not all of them had 6NR.

With no 6NR from factory, no apps - regardless of a connection or not.

And this "6NR" can't be coded in?

Is the combox a different hardware?
I always thought it's just a coding done in The VO

If you're on a really old software version from 2012, then yes. If after that, it can not be coded in as it requires a special security certificate which we can add. Top clarify - you can add this to the VO and code the car but the features still will not work.

There are many versions of the combox and variations of cellular technology and assist features - but any of them will work with Apps as long as the car was optioned with 6NR from the factory or if it was programmed with the proper credentials/certificates as would be with a 6NR retrofit purchased from us.

Hey Mike, what is the advantage of NBT over an Android unit? I would think Google maps alone would be a major upgrade over NBT system, NTM the endless apps and ability to store movies and music VIA micro SD.

Ok, got it. My car didn't have the 6NR option so I can't just "code" it in by upgrading the software.

Time to invest in an affordable lap timer/camera system
