Potentially faulty pre cat oxygen sensor bank one.

If the light hasn't illuminated yet, it hasn't seen the error occur enough times.

The reason I ask is sometimes i'll get a code on my p3 but no where else. if i unplug the p3, no codes or engine lights will illuminate etc..I think the p3 is sensative and displays 'shadow codes' that i've heard about but not too familiar with.

could it be that it detected a measure slightly out of the ranges and stored the code? I have a cam sensor error that has come up once on the p3 and never again anywhere else once cleared.

It appeared once last year when it got cold , never again that year. I?m running test pipes no cats and its getting cold outside in Canada. Once again the code came up ,,,,,, I think I?m going to drive it longer . Apparently they are 300cad each Bosch sensor. Are there any alternatives ? Anyone have experience with them ?

Correct, the P3 will read Bmw specific codes and will show faults triggered before SES light illumination as the Generic OBDII specification calls for a certain amount of errors to occur in X drive cycles before setting a permanent fault.
