I believe I would qualify for the residence cam expert (which is pretty sad) and still not at all understood after just going through this process it certainly is not that difficult. Costly a bit but doable. Anyway I am not sure if you are asking about stock or aftermarket cam but nonetheless the procedure is the same.
I am not technical enough to do the job myself but I know my installer bought the typical s65 timing tool easily found online. Anywhere from 500 to 1k and you don't need any fancy electronics. Mine was all timed with that and it worked out perfectly. I ended up having some other work done unrelated by another shop afterwards and they had the fancy bmw tools which they double checked the timing via that and it was spot on. So if you are a DIY person youll need to just look online and get the tool and go from there

Use the TIS data you can find online. Select the section in the left pane and follow the steps BMW published for this service.
