The spots are said to be contaminants getting into the oil, making their way into the bearings, and getting smashed. Speculated to be from aftermarket filters.

i have had two aftermarket filters (both oiled). MS drop-in with my oem neck/box, and AFE carbon.

for 2011+ bearings, they look about as bad as mine were and I was told mine may not have made it to the next oil change..

with coilovers, I'd like to have adjustable rears to dial out preload.

Keep in mind, I'm a 2011. These don't have copper. They are all almost down to the 2nd layer consistently across the board, and pretty much all of the little oil ridges are worn smooth.

Oh I know. I am 2011 as well. Yours looked better than mine, but I would expect it to given I have a million miles on them

The bearings are significantly worn, having depleted a considerable amount of their sacrificial layer. They should be replaced.

In this state, the bearings could last indefinitely depending on the use, but they are more likely to fail if loaded in such a way that would typically cause wear. And they've already experienced a significant amount of wear, so those conditions have occurred at some point during this engine's operation.

For an s65, my opinion is they're average. Which is terrible.

Nope. Stock filter and airbox.

My nose has been modified for better airflow though. Not cosmetic surgery as I can't afford all the work that would be required!

I just had a long talk with Andy at cobalt friction about brake pads and rotors. What a knowledgeable guy.
I'm cutting it kind of close as for rotor life/health and I sort of need new rotors for next week's track days at Sonoma and Laguna...

Andie (the owner) is very experienced in racing. He likes getting to know the customer's setup so he can get the right pad in there. You don't find that everyday in the brake pad world----especially for hobbyists like us.

Cobalt Friction doesn't market much, so they're not as well known in the HPDE world, but they make very good pads, and have done very well in the racing world.

Years ago, a racer who was also a mechanic told me about Cobalt pads----said they worked great and were easy on the rotors. I tried them. He was right.
