Spark Plugs
I've seen the DIY and the threads and I just don't have the time to install new ones and it's time. Pretty sure the plenum needs to come off although I have read it's not necessary, what price makes sense from an independent for this job understanding that markets are different and prices will vary?
According to the shop I am considering it's a three hour flat rate job. |

It depends how skilled your BMW tech is. Mine was able to do all the spark plugs in under 2 hours including airbox removal and re-installation.

I've got quotes around $400-$450 parts and labor. I chose not to pay someone and did them myself in under 2 hours. The job is straight forward and really easy if you don't try and do short cuts. Follow the step by step to the T and you're straight.

Thanks all, I am going to see if I can back them off the three hour quote. I would love to do it myself but just haven't found the time.

You can do it in a hour. Hardest part is getting coil/spark plug #4 and 8 out due to the confined space which took me a good 30-40 mins. What worked for me was to attach 3 different small swivel adapters.

I did it myself and was pretty straight forward. I would have a couple coil packs ready before doing this job. If you bought the car used, it has a very good chance the last owner left you a present. I found two cracked coils packs when I did mine. They still function and I placed them in the front so they would be easy to replace the next time around. With me it's not so much the money, it's the competency of the person. A lot of people break things and not tell you. That really ticks me off the most. I would pay $300 labor if I didn't have the time or desire to do it again.
