Bimmerworld street exhaust (now discontinued) installed. Snagged the last one, fit was perfect and I'm happy the 3.5 in tips fit ok within the diffuser.
Also installed the aluminum front undertray from Slambo/level3. Good feedback from the shop too on fitment. |

Replaced the gears in my car's throttle body actuators with aftermarket ones. I used this excellent video as a guide.
Once I removed the massive manifold, I was rewarded with those eight very cool individual throttle bodies staring up at me. The S65 engine is a work of art in all respects. My car is an '08, so I was surprised, once I pulled out the TBA's, to find they had 2014 date codes on them. Clearly, someone had replaced them in the past. I decided to replace the gears anyway, despite them being much newer than anticipated. this turned out to be a good call, as the gears were already showing signs of wear, and a fair number of gear shavings were present in the TBAs. All went well, as I took my time, cleaned parts as I went, and made sure I reconnected the many, many connectors that have to be removed to do this job. I was rewarded at the end with the car firing up immediately and running smoothly. Success. I have spent most of my years in the car hobby working on Porsches, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with how easy this car is to work on. Connectors disconnect easily, fasteners are of very high quality, and the designers built in thoughtful touches to assist in servicing, like indentations that allow a screwdriver in to reach the clamps on the throttle bodies. It's also nice to open the hood and be able to work on the engine; my Cayman S has the powerplant buried deep inside, and access is very awkward. Kudos to BMW for making working on the car a pleasure instead of a chore. |
