IMO Apex pricing is only attractive at their group buy pricing now, or if you need to replace a wheel it's usually not such a bad deal, but there are some cheaper forged wheels out now that are pretty sweet and not that much more money

Ouch. Mine is a little worse
LOL wth happened?
I took a line too tight on the inside of a curve. Slightly off the curbing. When I can back on it obviously was enough of an elevation that the curbing smacked the inside of the wheel.

Lesson learned.

I got an opportunity to test the new brakes. Great stopping power. I am happy with that. The colour change....not so much.

A complete tear down happened last night and they're going in for new powder coating. We are going to attempt a ceramic coating first before applying the powder. Not going back to the same colour. Trying something that is a little more stable and durable against discolouration from the heat.

What's everyone's experience with their powder coated calipers? Any suggestions on colours to avoid?

Wow! I had no idea the color could degrade that quickly. This is a pretty great advertisement for anodized calipers.

Any reason to be concerned about a 90dB sound limit at Laguna Seca on stock exhaust?

Nope.

I think the calipers look cool after the paint heat-faded, like real race parts instead of blingy streetcar 8-pot bragging rights yo dawg I herd you like 8 so I put 8 pots on your R8 so you could R8 while you 8 calipers

EDIT: Realized that sounds harsh, I think this brembo upgrade is actually kinda cool especially paired with the upgraded stock replacement rotors that are out there

I don't think you'll find a solution that won't experience some fade or discoloration if you track the car. This is why Essex doesn't paint their calipers at all, and tbh, I like the anodized look on my calipers.

I was thinking the same. But on the flip side, they actually look like the color you can order them in now. Sucks if that was the starting color for OP.

I have to try to sell someone two wheels now - that's a pita. lol

No offence taken. I certainly was looking for a cost effective upgrade. This appealed to me and my initial impression is good. The performance is above my OEM with pads, lines and fluid. Pad changes are a breeze. Overall I am happy. The colour change was a bit of a disappointment. But no worries. I'd much rather have the performance at the track. I am looking to change the colour so that it isn't so predominant. I have yellow fronts and neon rears!!!! I absolutely will not have this car sitting in the garage. It must be tracked!

Agreed! Unfortunately we cannot have our cake and eat it too. I have looked at anodizing mine and also ceramic coating. Stay tuned. I will let you know the results.

here is a piping hot plate of the cold hard truth-
you're putting more heat (larger pads) into already inferior oem rotors (weakest link in the braking system). you're just doing a lot of work for another color change. why the resistance to a more tried and true brake kit? you're putting enough heat into it with street tires to chameleon your calipers, so you're using them...
i'm not sure if there is a bbk where you can "have your cake and eat it too" in terms of high performance at the track and a pretty color for aesthetic pleasure.

if you're going to pay to strip and re-powder coat every time they change color, just stop bleeding cash now, sell (maybe just the fronts?) and buy a proper kit.

there is a company retrofitting boxter brakes (or some car like that) simply using a custom caliper bracket to adapt to our cars.

The overheating wasn't from street tires. The picture was after the track day when my street tires went back on. I am running Bridgestone RE71R for track rubber. As for the rotors, I will see what options are out there once these are done ie. Stoptechs, ECS....

Thanks for the piping hot plate of cold truth I appreciate the feedback.

Audi fronts and Porsche rears on stock rotors. Check the link from @roastbeef for the whole write up.

ok, even more so then.

if you're hellbent on salvaging this system, consider something like the ECS two piece rotors. i don't personally have experience with the ecs rotors, but others have reported good experiences with them. that should help with the discoloration, but i think it is likely to return.

Regardless of system, it is my understanding that any BBK that is powdercoated will discolour. The colours vary in the degree of severity, but it is bound to happen.

I have heard positive feedback from people who have used the ECS rotors. Once my stockers are done, then I will be looking to change. I didn't see the need to change rotors when the current ones have life in them. I am not disputing the capacity of the OEM rotors.

Like I have said in previous posts, this system definitely polarizes people and there are definitely opinions for and against. I for one didn't mind taking a chance and providing some valid feedback on the forum. Hopefully my experience will help others.

As I mentioned before, the performance is great. This is compared to the OEM calipers, ss lines, pads and fluid which I ran before. Unfortunately I can't provide feedback on performance as it relates to other BBK kits, however this system is an upgrade to what I was running before. I am in no way unhappy or looking to salvage it. I don't think it is as dire as you're portraying
