Anything better or cheaper than B-T tool nowadays?
I got the 1628 code over the weekend while getting the car out for the first time of the season (after winter storage). Chrotmass light, limp mode etc...
I know one thing, the battery was low so it might be the cause, and after driving about 45 minutes, I was left with a check engine light but no limp mode. I want to buy a scanner/programmer that I can use to do my own maintenance and diagnostic, I was wondering if anything new hit the market lately, other than the Bavarian Technic. Let me know, Cheers EDIT: That being said, I do have a Vag Com tool for my Audi and I've just read that it can be used on the E90 to do basic OBDII function - is that right?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A14BT59XZ1JDDR Do some searching on it. There's someone on here that can give you a discount code for Amazon also. |

I am also interested in a diagnosis tool and was considering Carly but looks like it is compatible only with IPhones and Ipads. Is there a tool that works with Android devices?

Not feeling the Carly product. It would ask for more money for the app, more money for additional features etc... It would get on my nerves quickly...
I'd rather go with a slightly more expensive BT tool than this one.

$75 for the adapter and yes I think $40 for the app and that will also allow you to register a battery when replacing it. It's a one-time charge for the app. It also allows you to do some coding...fold in mirrors, iDrive changes etc.

You could always get yourself a onestopelectronics INPA cable and download a copy of BMW Standard Tools (I.e. ISTA P/D, INPA, NCS Expert, etc.)
I will warn you however getting the programs set up and running properly requires a fair amount of effort and knowledge of PCs and using the programs requires research. |

Autel makes some higher end readers that will read some car-specific modules... but unless you plan to read multiple cars of different makes, you're better off buying the B-T tool.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "couldn't register" your new battery? I'll probably need to replace my car's battery within the next year as I think it's the original... Will I need to bring it to the dealership for that? Does the car need to be coded for it's new battery?

Yes. When I changed batteries about 4 years ago, I did not register the new one. It was pretty much identical spec to the old one. I just cleared adaption for the battery through my Vishnu Procede tune.

I've had the BT for nearly three years and have found it largely worthless beyond giving me codes (not the correct ones) and reseting maint. intervals. The ONE thing I needed it to do, it can't (register the battery). Fail.
