Just got ppi on car, has stored codes but no check engine. Anything to worry about?

Just got a PPI on a 2009 E90 M3 with 69k miles. The BMW dealer said there was a couple codes that were stored 00275d, 00275e, 002772, 002afb, 002b59. Just wondering if i should be worried about this before purchase. He said he hasn't deleted any codes recently.

Best guess is that it will need new O2 sensors (not sure if pre- or post-cat) and a coolant thermostat. The intake air temp sensor could just be unplugged as it can be easily forgotten when the intake plenum is reinstalled.

Nothing abnormal for the mileage though, I replaced my O2 sensors and coolant thermostat at 69k also. Parts alone should cost no more than $350.

First of all, its quite normal for many M3's to have codes stored that don't illuminate a CEL.

Secondly, there's a very good chance that they won't come back after clearing them for quite some time. But it does seem that the temp sensor is either disconnected or non functional- as the o2 codes could be caused by an engine that cannot properly monitor coolant and/or IAT's.

These "issues" are easily resolved but may be a nice bargaining chip in obtaining a lower price on the car...

You think it would be a good price at 28k? 6speed, sunroof, 69k miles, cold weather, nav, 19's(not zcp)?

If all readiness monitors are currently passing I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sometimes low voltage can cause all types of codes

Offer 24 or 25 max. It has 70k miles and will need work. Thermostat and O2 may be the beginning of a sorting out of issues. Bank cash for repairs.

Some of us were posting expenses here and the consensus was about 3k per year in maintenance and repairs.

Agreed. a 2009 with 70k at $28k is full retail, especially if it's another typically crusty NY car. It sounds like an average M3 from what you noted. Unless its a rare color or has other abnormal/desirable options, you can find better.

E201464 are the last 7 of the vin on that screen. Maybe it is good to verify it is the same car. And if so, as pointed out, the mileage is not 69k. Good catch on the mileage. In this case, the car may not be worth purchasing.

OP, like the guys said cars usually have various codes even if not displayed.
Easy to clear with for instance the Carly app. Also agree you better check actual mileage. Same here Carly check logged mileage on a number of various modules onboard - which should be the same except for any of them possibly replaced - which obviously should correlate with the cluster mileage.

No, the Mileage is indeed 69k according to that screen. ISTA shows mileage in kilometers. Still work cross checking VIN's though.
